Are there other "starter" recipes like the amish friendship bread?
I was given an Amish Friendship Bread starter by a friend 10 days ago, and the bread turned out awesome today. Now that I'm all excited about it, I want to know if anyone knows similar "starter" recipes that can be made regularly from a "permanent" starter and shared with friends. I had a yogurt one in the past (which is much harder to make because of temperature considerations), does anyone know of others?

Just web search friendship cake starter, friendship bread starter, fruitcake starter recipes, Amish Starter recipes, sourdough starter recipes---there are a bunch. It's been so long since I was into all that, I just can't remember the categories anymore.

There's a dynamic fruit compote that develops a real kick after about 10 days in a big glass container [with lid, as I recall]. The Italian lady I knew years ago used to call it "tutti frutti" and made it in time for Christmas. Involved layering canned pineapple, apricots, peaches, maraschino cherries, and adding sugar to each layer...you wait a few days before adding more fruit layers and sugar. You'd need to Google a real recipe with amounts of everything...after the first time period, you can take off some of the fruit and heavenly juices to either give away, put in jars in the fridge, flavor cakes or puddings with, etc. Trust me, at the very end of the sequence you get some dynamic fruit brandy in that juice combination....fruit + sugar + time = booze.
