New Beetle Transmission Noise?

My New Beetle TDI 5 speed just started making a noise that sounds like gears clashing. It is only on the lower half of clutch travel when the car is stopped. It doesn't do it when rolling slowly or any gear other than first or reverse when stopped!

Update:

It is with clutch depressed and car in gear. It has 112,000 miles on it.

    How much milage does the car have? When the car engine is running and in neutral and you press the clutch does the noise stop? If the noise stops then the problem is in the clutch. It is hard to say if you are not next to the car.
