Cell Bio Problem Help please?
Please help me answer the following problem. Much thanks.
Genes encoding mutant forms of receptor tyrosine kinase can be introduced into cells that express the normal receptor from their own genes. If the mutant genes are expressed at considerably higher levels than the normal genes, what will be the consequences for receptor-mediated signaling of introduced genes for the following mutant receptors?
A) A mutant receptor tyrosine kinase that lacks its extracellular domain
B) A mutant receptor tyrosine kinase that lacks its intracellular domain

I don't know if extreme over expression completely drowns out the activity of the endogenous receptor. But if you got only the mutant receptors activity in the cell then:
A) Extracellular domain is needed for binding of the ligand that activates the intracellular kinase domain. Depending on the mutation and receptor type, this can cause the kinase to be permanently active or inactive without a possibility to be activated by external signals.
B) Able to bind the ligand but no way it can't phosphorylate anything, because of the missing intracellular kinase domain.
Anyway it will be deleterious to the cell for there will be either none or to much signaling downstream of the pathway. All dis-regulated. Cancer or cell-death.

Hmmm... i am majoring in biology so I can not say that I do not uncover it fascinating. However, I used to be on the identical location as you in prime tuition, I HATED it with a ardour. College categories are so much unique regardless that, chiefly in case your instructor is passionate approximately the field. You do get into fascinating topics finally in bio like genetics, micro, and zoology. Still regardless that, each and every magnificence may have its uninteresting days. Just attempt to make it via magnificence as high-quality you'll be able to...that is all I ever do besides lol
