distance between Myoglobin residues?
In a Myoglobin protein, the distance between amino acid residues val 21 and val 17 is 5.84 angstroms and between val 21 and val 66 is 5.97 angstroms. Could you explain how this is possible... I am aware that it must do with the tight folding of myogobin but really unsure of true explanation.

1 AnswerBiology1 decade agoQuestion about amino acids....?
So I am in biochem, and one of my homework questions is why amino acid sidechain ionizable groups often have pK values that differ significantly from those of the isolated amino acid?
Now if you could help me fill in the gaps in my answer or lead me in the direction I would appreciate it. I have that ionizable groups can be in one of two states, neutral or charged. Also they are farther removed from the main structure and thus have varying properties, and they also alter the pI.
Help me if you can, I appreciate it.
1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoLaptop won't turn on?
Model: MT6458 Gateway
Monday of last week my computer beeped several times ( I don't know how many times) and then I locked the laptop and everything worked fine afterwards. I have only used my laptop once since then and I went to turn it on and for a few minutes no problem, I had a flashdrive (removed now) in and was on word. But it turned black and the blue light remained on. For a few times it let me try to turn it back on but its stopped and the blue light has gone off. I tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding it on for 30sec and then putting it back the way it was and turning it on but this has not worked either. Now everything is off and it will not turn on. The battery is glowing above 50 and alittle bit of 75 so I know its not dead. Is there anything I can do or is my laptop dead? I have had the laptop for three years if that makes a difference

why is it desirable to explain physiological processes in mechanistic terms rather than in teleological terms?
2 AnswersBiology1 decade agoCell Biology help needed please?
Please help me answer these two questions.
1. Explain mechanistically your predictions. When fused wuth an S-phase cell, cells in which of the following phases of the cell cycle will initiate DNA replication prematurely, G1? G2? M? Also predict fusing a cell in G1 with a cell in G2 with the effect on timing of S phase in each cell.
2. How can the group of five Gap genes specify more than five types of ce;;s in Drosophila embryos. Explain fully.

Genes encoding mutant forms of receptor tyrosine kinase can be introduced into cells that express the normal receptor from their own genes. If the mutant genes are expressed at considerably higher levels than the normal genes, what will be the consequences for receptor-mediated signaling of introduced genes for the following mutant receptors?
A) A mutant receptor tyrosine kinase that lacks its extracellular domain
B) A mutant receptor tyrosine kinase that lacks its intracellular domain

a 0.60-kg metal sphere oscillates at the end of a vertical spring. As the spring stretches from 0.12 to 0.23 m (relative to its unstrained length), the speed of the sphere decreases from 5.70 to 4.80 m/s. What is the spring constant of the spring?

a 3.2-kg block is hanging stationary from the end of a vertical spring that is attached to the ceiling. The elastic potential energy of the spring/mass system is 1.8 J. What is the elastic potential energy of the system when the 3.2-kg block is replaced by a 5.0-kg block?
1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoCell Bio question about Ras?
A single amino acid change in Ras eliminates its ability to hydrolyze GTP, even in
the presence of a GTPase-activated protein (GAP). Roughly 30% of human cancers
have this change in Ras. You have identified a small molecule that prevents
dimerization of a receptor tyrosine kinase that signals via Ras. Would you expect
this molecule to be effective in the treatment of cancers that express this
common, mutant form of Ras? Why of why not?

I could really use some help answering these questions for my homework. Thanks.
A)
Succinylcholine is a chemical analog of acetylcholine. It is used by surgeons as a muscle relaxant. Care must be taken in the use of succinylcholine because some individuals have an adverse reaction, with life threatening consequences. Such individuals are deficient in an enzyme called pseudicholinesterase, which is normally present in the blood, where it slowly inactivates succinylcholine by hydrolysis to succinate and choline.
If succinylcholine is an analog of acetylcholine, why do you think it causes muscles to relax and not contract as acetylcholine does?

1 AnswerBiology1 decade agoNeed help with Cell Biology?
consider a transmembrane protein complex that forms a hydrophilic pore across the plasma membrane of a eukaryotic cell. The pore is made of five similar protein subunits, each of which contributes a membrane-spanning alpha helix to form the pore. Each alpha helix has hydrophilic amino acid side chains on one side of the helix and hydrophobic amino acid side chains on the opposite side. Propose a possibel arrangement of these five alpha helices in the membrane.
