The Krebs Cycle is a cycle that happens is aerobic respiration. It is also called the Citric Acid Cycle because citric acid is the first compound produced in the cycle. In this cycle, pyruvic acid (pyruvate) is broken down into carbon dioxide in a series of energy-extracting reactions. For 1 glucose molecule (monosaccharide) it produces 2 ATP, 8 NADH, and 2 FADH2. This occurs in the matrix of the mitochondria.
