I doubt many Protestants have investigated the origins of the Bible. The New Testament texts were written by original Catholic-Orthodox Christians in the only church established by Jesus, and culled and canonized by church councils. The New Testament was preserved through the Dark Ages and used by Catholics and the Orthodox for nearly 1500 years before there were any Protestants.

Perhaps these newcomer Christians think God dictated the Bible to independent Christians, something like Muslims think Allah dictated the Q'uran. Of course, that is false.

    Cheers,

    Bruce

No they don't. They think that King Jimmy wrote it. But, as a Roman Catholic for almost 60 years now, I have to wholeheartedly agree with the final statement of the man on the film: The Bible is a Catholic document, from first to last. And everything else the gentleman said was true too. God Bless you.

    Hey there

Given that the Catholic Church in its present form didn't exist before Gregory the First, that's an impossible claim to substantiate. I hope the article below helps!

Oh and for the record, no, I don't think Catholics can't be Christians!!!

When I was Protestant, I had no idea. In fact, I always heard that the Catholic Church removed books from the Bible.

Thankfully God led me to his Church, and I was amazed to find out the truth, and see how beautiful it all really is.

As Rene O says - yes, the Bible does exist because of God. He worked through the authors and inspired them to write his Word. He worked through his Church and inspired them to compile his Word and seal the Canon. Via her authority, she chose the inspired books and gave us the Bible.

Absolutely they do. But Catholic traditions are not their traditions. We are still one holy catholic church (small "c"). In 20-20 hindsight, anyone can see the idiocy of the 16th century on all sides led to a small splinter off the Roman Catholic Church. That small splinter has disintegrated into many grains of dust, and it is not the same today as it was then. It is virtually indistinguishable from Catholicism (big C) because Christ is the son of a jealous God, and he don't take kindly to pretenders. The many prodigal sons and daughters will come back in time. Stubbornness don't hold a candle to the Gospels.

The Fear of the Lord is alive and well in Protestantism. They HAVE adopted a great many of the sacraments and traditions of Catholicism, and nothing has been plagiarized more than the writings of Catholic saints, popes and intellectuals by Protestant ministers. Even the so-called reformers were obviously guilty of that (but plagiarism was not a "crime" then). Remember though what was going on just prior to and just after the historical period popularly called the Reformation. A New World had been discovered by the Catholic Kings of Spain. The Medici family of Italy had given the world of seafaring merchants a new method of capitalizing on wealth (they invented the financial industry). The Crusades had shut down the Moslem threat for all intents and purposes. Printing made it possible to manipulate words for very specific purposes. And philosophers were seeking to empower man with the responsibility of developing his own thoughts and "owning" the free will. (So when some men decided to take it upon themselves to singlehandedly interpret the Bible outside of a unified Church of millions of people, they were just doing the individualistic skidoo.) Science was also making mankind aware of many new discoveries made by individuals and art was carrying the message of Jesus Christ to millions of illiterates who could now visualize The Word. Great individuals created this art. People forgot that entire unified Catholic townspeople built the Gothic cathedrals they worshiped in, much like the Amish band together today to erect a barn. Instead, they saw the celebrity of those few individuals who left the towns and traveled from worksite to worksite (the men who created the Gothic arch and the flying buttress, the men who came to be called the "free masons"). They forgot the power of unity in the face of little kingdoms, baronies, ducheys.... and were seduced by the apple of individuality (which has its place mind you, just not in the Holy world of Christ's church). Who was standing in the way of rampant greed of ambitious individuals in the secular world of the Holy Roman Empire? The Vatican, and more importantly, tens of thousands of devout priests, nuns and laymen throughout Europe.

It is no wonder mankind witnessed the flourishing of imperial forces that sponsored the Protestant movement and made it happen. Everything was ripe at that moment in time. But did it defeat the Vatican? Do away with the Roman Catholic Church? Not even close. "And the gates of hell shall not prevail against you," Christ told Peter when he created the Sacrament of Ordination. Do not make the mistake of holding Protestants today accountable for idiots like Luther, Calvin or Henry VIII. All of those men were trained either in Roman Catholic monasteries (Luther) or universities (Calvin, Henry). They were aberrations, but they are footnotes in history now. The real news is the Good News. As the great 20th Century philosopher Peter Townsend writ: "Meet the new boss! Same as the old boss!" Nice video by the way. But the only Protestants who continue to protest do so for one reason: love of their thoughts over the love of God. Love of their church instead of love of God's catholic church. It is the simple sin of taking the Lord's name in vain. They've just perfected it. I do that when I curse, so I have my own moments of protest! So I can't condemn, though like you, I can question and answer.

No one ever has owned or operated the Roman Catholic Church. It is a unified, unbreakable church of Christ's faithful gazillions. It isn't a 501(3)c. It is the Living Christ. Most Protestants stay where they are out of simple tradition on the one hand, and unfortunate fear of their fellow man on the other. Most are very aware of historical truths. They must be. Keep the faith. God wanted us to be "on earth as it is in heaven:" unified in His Glory. His will as spoken by His Son is for man to be unified, not divided. Amazing how many people pray that every day and still can't find their way into an RCIA program to convert to Catholicism. Keep it simple though. Love one another as He has loved us all. It all flows from that.

    Here is my 2 cents.

The word catholic means universal. But The ROMAN Catholic church is not the Church that Jesus Built but man under Satan's control built. Also there are basically nondenominational, Catholic, and holiness churches, denominational or Protestant churches out there. All religions, are basically, categorized as, Christian or non Christian churches.

<<Do Protestants (non-denominationals, Evangelicals)know that the Bible exist BECAUSE the Catholic Church exists?>>

From my experience, MANY do not. Those that are aware of History, tend to rationalize it and down play it...because in the back of their head's, they realize the implications of admitting the Catholic church assembled the bible and therefore has more authority to interpret it. The few in my experience that do, either say that the Church did 1 thing right but doesn't follow it, herself anymore, OR says that the church had but one useful purpose but is no longer needed.

Almost as if The Catholic Church is to be USED and then thrown away.. kind of like "Thanks for creating the bible..but we can take it from here..your services are no longer needed"

The FACTS are that the Bible was assembled by the Catholic church. Its Bishops, who's knowledge was taught to them by the Apostles, used their knowledge to decide WHAT to include and more importantly, what to exclude from the bible.

This logically gives the Catholic church more authority then any other organization or individual to interpret it and maintain consistency with the 3 centuries PRIOR to the bible even existing.

The Church then maintained its accuracy and protected it from change and corruption through the dark ages and was instrumental in translating it to other languages (after initially resisting translation)

It ensured that each Catholic church had at least 1 bible available to the Public back when bibles had to be hand written and cost 30-20,000 in today's dollars.

The bible truly is the Catholic Church's greatest gift to the WORLD.

BUT ANYWAYS.. what is interesting to ME is that....

In talking to Catholics... many of them SURPRISINGLY, don't even realize the role the Catholic church played in assembling the bible.

In Protestant majority countries like the US, many Catholics have been brow beat into thinking that A) All their beliefs are mere "traditions of man" and NOT found in the bible - FALSE

    B) The bible was created solely by GOD so one one can lay claim to its formation - FALSE

These are "truths" repeated by so many Protestants to the point that even Catholics begin to think they are true. - which is truly sad.

This is based on going to many non-denominational and Baptist Churches, my wife being Baptist, and going 9 years to a Private Christian School even though I remain Catholic. In N. CA, most of the Christians are non-denominational or Baptist.

IF it were so, why would it matter, you all desire Kudos??? God inspired His Holy Living Word through the chosen authors, NONE of them were catholic, for catholics did not exist in all those days. If it hadn't been placed in your religions hands it would have been placed in anothers. The very fact that your church got their hands on It in the first place, explains Revelations, the great whore of Babylon and their demise, without your church, this Book would have been "different". The man Constantine created your religion with paganism/heathenism with just a smidge of Crhistianity to fool/decieve MILLIONS, your religion, all your own, has corrupted, changed, added/taken away, it all equals up to great Blaspheme against God, you all please and obey "man", not God. You all REFUSE to be in obedience to God, yet "claim" to serve Him, you all question NOTHING but are content in living in the sins of this church. Do younot hold any value on God and His Truths and Promises, apparently Not. I feel very very sad and ver very sorry for you all should you not "come out of Her" as Jesus tells us all in Rev. 18:4..I am NOT an anti anything, I just do not understand, can not comprehend your unwillingness to Seek His Truth, not "mans".....the end result in indeed fatal and lethal, which all shall surely see soon...God Bless and Have Mercy

    Yes.

The Catholic Church Compiled the New Testament about 300 years after the death of Christ.

Jesus gave us the Church and the Church gave us the New Testament.

And the Catholic Church exists despite the Bible, since they haven't followed its teachings since the fourth century.

Edit: I watched your video. Means nothing. Scripture isn't a gift from the RCC, it's the word of God. The OT canon was closed before the church even began. (So for the RCC to claim they gave it to us is a joke.) And God said His word was forever settled in heaven. In the NT, He said that neither an apostle nor an angel from heaven had the right to change the original teaching of the church. So, knowing that God said that, why does the Catholic church ignore the teachings of the NT? Why don't they baptize the way the apostles did? Why do they place tradition on an equal par with the word of God when Jesus Himself said that tradition makes the word of God of no effect? Why aren't they still receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost as the apostles did? (Most Catholics probably don't even know there is such a baptism.)

The RCC can't claim to have any connection to scripture when most of their teachings contradict scripture. As a boy, in Catholic school, I was taught not to read the Bible. I was told by the nuns that only the priest could interpret it. When I was 13, I read it anyway. Then I understood why I wasn't supposed to read it: My church wasn't obeying it... not by a wide margin. At 14, I joined a church that teaches ONLY the Bible, rejecting all the traditions of the RCC, and all its creeds, even the ones accepted by most Protestants.

If Christianity is worth doing, it is worth doing right. And the right way is the way the apostles did it.
