Is my dentist ripping me off?

Is $259 for a two surface filling a bit overpriced? What are other people paying for similar work?

Update:

It's funny that people assume that there is dental insurance. I asked around and found that most other dentists charge about 150. This isn't an affluent area either.

All dentist try and make money off of you. The one i was going to raised his prices so much that i had to go somewhere else. they wanted over $1,000 for a root canal. I ended up paying just under $900 witch is still high. but i don't think that $259 is to bad. You should call other dentist in your area and see what they charge for the same thing. then you will know for sure if he is to high.

For the record, no reputable dentist will "rip off" a patient. We want them back and to recommend us to their friends and family.

Fees are set by zip codes in the States. The more affluent the area, the higher the fees will be. We are located in Orange County Calif, and our fee for a two surface posterior resin filling is $231.00 (We are considered low).

So, no, that fee is not that high. You can call around to other dental offices and compare fees, but remember, you get what you pay for. It is never wise to go bargain hunting when it comes to medical or dental treatment. Also, if you do decide to call around, make sure the offices you call are similar to the one you went to ( a one dentist office, small private practice, a clinic, etc.)
