... Bear with it. Turn your head, listen to loud music, and pinch hard on your thigh. I crap my pants every time I see the needle.

my daughter is needle phobic too, she started with growth hormone injections aged 4yrs, she's now nearly 13 and is still in a daily injection, she's still needle phobic but for the past 4yrs has been doing them herself.
the needles are tiny and honestly they don't hurt, you need to relax and not tense up. i know of children as young as 16 months who have these injections and after the shock of the 1st few even these little ones are fine. i've even in the past injected my daughter when asleep, so that shows they are not painful. (well rarely they are)
that said there are devices available that don't use needles. whether they are available to you i don't know. here in England they are available although most still go for the needle devices. here's a link to one needle free device.

growth hormone only works if given through the skin either via injection or with one of these needle free "pens". tablets don't work at all as stomach acids kill the active ingredient.
honest though the injections are not painful, before my daughter started on them and i was being shown how to do the injections i had to give myself one (no real growth hormone in it) and it does not hurt. our nurse gets the parents to inject themselves so we know there is no pain, or sometimes just a tiny bit
