Flying with a longboard?
I'm flying domestic on United and I need to transport my longboard. It's a Sector 9 cruiser, 46' x 10" x4 " . Supposedly you can just check them as a bag, but I'm concerned about it being damaged. How can I protect it for the flight?

I second the other answer. Smaller boards you can usually get away with as carryons by stowing them overhead, etc. but larger boards usually require being checked. People like large padded bags for that.
What you can do is take the trucks off and pack them into something small like a suitcase or back pack, which will make the deck itself easier to deal with in your bag, and make more room for packing clothes, etc. A few parts you'll want to make sure to wrap well will be the nose, tail, and the rails, since a dropped bag will likely land on those parts. As for wrapping, a few cushy sweatshirts should do the job. Two t-shirts will not cut it though, just to forewarn you.

most airlines let you take it on with you, if its strapped to a backpack. other wise shop around for a 46" duffle bag and just pack all your clothes and stuff into it as well. ive heard of a few buddies putting it into a soft shell snowboard bag.
hell yea to longboarding by the way
