Architects don't design the structural supports of a building, engineers do. I'm not exactly sure how/why an architect would need physics, and in my experience they don't.

Physics is very important when dealing with brigdes beacuse you need a basic understanding of archs supports and the forces that will bne acting upon the structure. Without this the brigde is unsafe and will not pass safety. An example is the golden gate bridge. It is a suspension bridge and it holds alot of weight. Very creative design.
