Another category in home and garden?

Someone asked the question a few days ago about the possibility of changing the name of garden and landscape or creating another category for the the youngsters that are always asking about caring for their weed. I hate to think of anyone contributing to these kids ruining their health, or worse, and maybe those questions should be banned altogether. But while we're at it, how about another new category for answers only, titled "Don't have a clue, but feel compelled to answer anyway"?

Or how about "I don't know, but thanks for the 2 points"....lol. Yes, those mary jane questions which seem to pop up on a daily basis are quite annoying aren't they? I assume they can be reported as dangerous to kids' well being eh? And they are suppose to be are fearless leaders of tomorrow!. What is the world coming to....

I shall start with the second part of your question--yes, answers of this type are annoying, as are those with abusive, "adult" content (unfortunate label).

As for the first part, I did participate in answering that particular question, posted by jD.

I agreed with meanolmaw's answer and Pondlady was right there too with other Posters.

There was a general feeling that it is better to have this unfortunate problem out in the open so

we may all try to deal with it. Just Thumbs Down and No Best Answer are not the best solutions either, but if there is not a "good" answer to each of these questions when and if they go to voting--

and I have noticed that they usually do--there is not much leeway to be effectively preventive,

not only for the asker of the question, but for the others who have not posted a question but

are reading the answers in search of information.

I have begun to try to answer some of these questions, as I believe, like meanolmaw and Joy is

always Free, that prevention is the key. As meanolmaw very truly said, someone who asks

for information here may still be persuaded not to try whatever they are curious about. Even

one who is dissuaded is worth the hassle of attempting an answer.

As for the counseling category--there is no way these "youngsters" will stay there--these questions

are spread right across the Answers Forum. Here and in Botany they are probably more prevalent,

but I have seen them in many other sections e.g. Cooking and Recipes, Words and Wordplay etc.

Taking your suggestion a little further, perhaps we might all be in agreement to ensure that not

one of these exploratory questions is left without a suitable answer which will aim to persuade

the asker to seek better pastimes.

Yahoo Answers is a community, and as members of a community I feel we can use our little knowledge and expertise to benefit this community. (Oops, that sounds like preaching--it is not

meant to be--just thinking out loud ...)

Hello Hundo, I think this is a good idea in one way because for me this is so up-setting to constantly seeing these questions appear so frequently. It is so sad but this is reality in today's world.

Years ago I was a counselor for kids with many types of drug problems and alcoholics of all ages.

This behavior starts usually as the child is growing up and it sprouts up just like a new seedling in the spring some where we least expect it to.

It can often be a genetic disability that people do not realize until they hit bottom and are seeking help. The counselors first question is Always to check the families back ground for alcohol, drugs and depression problems just to name a few.

But, So after much thought and I have only been in this category for a few weeks I now have more tolerance and understanding. I knew that drugs of all types are here, have been here and always will be here. Maybe I'm finding out that it seems to be getting more of a growing problem do to our society and our world events. More stress do to the economy and some lose of spirituality.

All it is is self medicating over mental pain or keeping up with peer pressure and just plain experimenting and have fun....not knowing the consequences.

I believe for me I would like to be of what ever kind of help that I can be.

I know this might be hard for some to understand. Most think just don't drink it or smoke it...I wish it worked that way.

A quick example is if you had 10 beds lined up in a hospital hall way and at the end of each bed there was a sign that told what eac person was dieing of what would happen is this.

One person is dieing of heart failure, one of stomach cancer, one of brain cancer. one of kidney failure then one of alcoholism and drug addition.

The average person who does not know about the alcohol and drug dis-eases would feel sorry for every one else but the drunk and druggie.

Most think well this is your fault you shouldn't have done this in the first place. But these 2 are truly diseases that can be prevent and maybe cured.

85% if the populations in jails and prison are do to drugs and alcohol. They are usually very sensitive and caring people its the disease that got them there. Doing something horrible while under the influence.

So If I can help just 1 person out of 500 questions then I would like to see the weed questions stay in gardening and landscaping.

Just my experiences and thoughts is all. My 2 cents.

EDIT: Yes, Billy Ray...What "is" the world coming too? Good question. >wink< And yes Pondlady "type away" >Grin<

Maybe we will end up being a "drug couseling catagory" instead of garden and landscape. We have to put the two together some how. lol
