DVD ripping, can you help ?

Ripping is a term used to copy data from a DVD/CD to a Hard Drive and Burning is writing data from a Hard Disc or a storage medium to a DVD/ CD..

Now there are only a few codecs or versions of media that a DVD player understands, older DVD players don't even understand the DivX format which is pretty much common these days.. e.g a older DVD players are not capable of playing MPEG 4, 3gp formats. The movie needs to be either in a dat file (video CD) or a vob format (standard movie DVD).

You basically need a software to convert it into a DVD format for using on a DVD player, for that you need a coverter that can convert it into VOB format. I am not aware of any free software's but I use the Nero Recode to do this.

Windows MP just burns the disc into a CD/DVD without changing the format that's why some DVD players can't read the Disc..

You can try googling for such a software, recode the disc into an Video CD format (if it's below 600 MB) or a vob file and then the disc will work..

Step 1

Load the Nero 9 program by clicking on the desktop shortcut. Go to the "Start Menu" and enter "Nero" into the search bar if you are unable to find the program.

Step 2

Click "Copy Disc" on the left hand menu. Select the sources drive that you will use to copy the disc.

Step 3

Insert the DVD that you wish to copy into the disc tray. Click the red button on the bottom right hand side of the screen that says "Copy."

Step 4

Remove the DVD disc and insert a blank DVD-R disc into the disc tray. Click "Load" and then the red button that says "Burn."

Step 5

Remove the disc from the disc tray and click "OK." Label the DVD with a black marker if you wish.

You need to convert the video to .VOB files to make them work on a DVD. Here's the basic folder structure of a DVD:

--Root Folder

---VIDEO_TS

------.VOB, .IFO files

---AUDIO_TS (optional)

When you have them set up like above, burn them to disc.

your dvd player might not allow u to play the dvd
