Why is so much transliterated Russian posted in Yahoo! Answers?
Why are people posting passages of Russian transliterated into the Roman alphabet? This makes it twice as hard to translate to English, as one has to think what each word was in the original Cyrillic script before translating it.

Because there are many Russians in the world, and often they have to use keyboards which don't have Cyrillic alphabet. Nevertheless, they want to communicate with each other in Russian, and transliteration is the most convenient way to say something in Russian without using Russian keyboard.
Later, these Russians' friend and relatives see these messages and are very curious to know what their friend/relatives write.
And we have the result :)

It's becoming more common to write Russian words in this way. One main reason is that most mobile phones use 4 times the memory to send a Cyrillic message than a transliterated one.
