Can I install Windows 7 on my computer without erasing what is in the second partition?
I have a year-old Dell laptop running Windows Vista, and I have access through my employer to a legal copy of Windows 7 which I would like to try out on it. The computer came with a "Recovery" version of the Vista OS preloaded in a different partition (it shows up as "Recovery (D:)" in My Computer). I just want to make sure that, when I insert the Windows 7 DVD and it starts the formatting process, any changes will only affect the OS drive, Drive C:, while leaving whatever is on D: in place. That way I can go back to an out-of-the-box Vista system if Windows 7 doesn't work out. Are there any pitfalls I should look out for?

1st. No it will not do anything the D:\
2nd. When going from Windows Vista to Windows 7 you really don't have to format. Unless you want to. I think it is better to format myself. But anyway. your answer is no it will not hurt D:\

No, you cannot install windows 7 on your computer without erasing what is in the second partition if you are currently working on windows XP.
Windows 7 is probably the best operating system. The process of upgrading and migrating is vey efficient in Windows 7.It will not erase any of yours essential data because it provides a utility that makes the backup which stores the data or information required by you.
I would rather suggest you to have the windows setup from iyogi as they provide cheap and the best service.
