I just took my asvab and made an 81, is this good enough to get almost any job in the military?

Pretty Much. Depending on what jobs are available in whatever branch you are interested in. That score basically means you are smarter than 81% of the personnel in the military. Don't let your recruiter tell you that what you want to do isn't available. Hold out until you get to do what you are interested in.

John is right and wrong. 81 means you did as good or better than 81% of the population used to norm the exam NOT MILITARY PERSONNEL. The last time it was normed was in 2007. They used 30,000 people, aged 14 - 30 from varying backgrounds to norm the exam. This is the way they figure out what a score means. It gets re-normed every 5-7 years,
The 81 is the AFQT score and actually means very little in MOS selection. The individual line scores determine what jobs are available to you.

The ASVAB is just what the acronym stands for: Armed Services Vocational Availability Battery. It "relates" to what MOS you would be qualified for in any branch of service. It shows that you are highly qualified for entering the armed forces. The MOS test scores would indicate what jobs you are qualified for getting once you are enlisted. The 81 score would help you in the MOS testing because it shows you have the ability to do many things and you would have a larger selection of MOS's to choose from. You may want to think about Officers Candidate School(OCS). You would apply for this after completing basic training. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best as the military needs well qualified people in every MOS. The Answer Man---Al Cote

Short answer: Yes.
Longer explanation: the 81 represents you total score based mainly on math, logic, and english. What plays a more important role are your "line" scores. These are the scores that show what you have a greater aptitude to learn. Ex: those with high mechanical scores will be offered more jobs dealing with mechanical problems.
Anything over a 50 also qualifies you for additional bonuses, such as the Army College Fund and Cash Enlistment Bonus.
Your recruiter can provide you with more up-to-date information

Your 81 is just you AFQT which means you scored 81% higher than the people who took it with you. It all comes down to your lone scores to determine jobs.

Almost any job thsat's availible at the time you enlist.
It's a combination of what you qualify for and what the military needs. IF you want to be xx and it's not availible your sol. You take what they need or you don't enlist. Simple as that.

Yeah. You're not going to be an astronaut in the Air Force, but you'll have a ton of jobs to choose from.

yes, as long as you have US citizenship/clearance/mentally and physically qualified/no criminal records and that kind of stuff, you can get any job in the military. but of course you have to go through boot first.
