How come the US is so hysterical when it comes to sex? Why is it possible to charge a MINOR as a sex offender?

"Sexting' or sending sexually explicit photos of yourself via text message is becoming a growing problem. Currently the laws do not address "sexting" specifically. It is time intensive to get the laws changed and the legal system has not caught up yet.

However, I expect that in the future laws that pertain to sexting will be put into place.

As it is, the legal system is using the current laws to address the problem. It's not perfect but it's what we've got.

Additionally, states are raising the age of consent. Not lowering it. Although some states have not made it a crime if the partner is with in 2 years of the minors age. These type of provisions have been put in place to help solve the problem of the 18 yo who has sex with his 16 yo girlfriend ending up on the sex offenders list.

No politician will loosen the laws regarding sex and minors (children) because the public does not want them loosened. The voting public wants children (minors) protected. As such...the public tends to favor a tightening of the laws. And any politician that was stupid enough to come out publicly for allowing sex with children will: 1. not be able to get any such legislation passed, 2. never be elected to public office again.

As far as porn goes...kiddie porn will not....should not...be legal in the US. Period.

The only ones pushing for lowering the age of consent....are horny 13 year olds who are too young to be making this type of decision...(and can't vote) and pedophiles that want to have sex with children.

EDIT: kids don't send naked photos of themselves because its forbidden. They do it because they don't think about the consequences.

They are stupid enough to believe "he won't show any one" or "she won't show anyone" and then get hurt, humilated and made fun of when that photo ends up making the rounds at school or posted on facebook.

It's the same reason...21 year old girls get drunk and run around naked in Girls Gone Wild videos. They don't stop and think that their actions have long term consequences. That maybe one day...they'll be 25 and trying to get a job as an elementry school teacher and that old video comes up.

It's the same reason...a woman competes in a beauty pagent...then answers a legit question about gay marriage poorly....decides to make a career being the poster child for the Christian right...only to have naked photos that she took when she was over 18 come back to haunt her. Then to make matters worse....explicit photos that she sexted to her boyfriend when she was in her early 20's surface.

People engage in these stupid behaviors because they don't think before they act. Period.

You can't blame the legislator or the politicians for that.

If you are a US citizen and don't like our laws....you have the freedom to leave and go somewhere else. But if you are in the US and plan to stay here....understand...kiddie porn and sex with children is illegal here.

If you are not a US citizen and disagree with our laws...you are welcome to stay where you are.

The source of all your issues are the right-wing Republicans who 1) Create laws based on their own personal Christian beliefs and 2) Fail to represent the will of the people. I know of several horror stories of young people's lives who have been ruined after they needed to register as sex offenders.

You should really go bang your head into a wall if you can not figure this out. second thought. sending pornographic images of minors over any video device is considered to be an offense of a sex offender. meaning, sexual in nature. being sent by a minor or a adult.If a teenager sends these types of pictures to anyone they should be labeled a sex offender.

I don't know. The only reason we have 99% of the sex laws we have is because it adds $'s to politicians pockets, and others. It is not based on common scene, logic, or studies.
