Why can't Yhoo! Answers spell check understand that Diamotaceous is correctly spelled. I am looking at it on?

I am currently looking at it in dictionary.com so what is your problem with spell checker?

diatom (like the old shell of micro sea animals) aceous (did not look yet) Diatomaceous Earth. I used to service swimming pool filters and also used for plant soils to "chop up" little pests cuz they are so hard and sharp.

"DiaMOTaceous" or do you mean "diaTOMaceous"? The first is the way it's spelled in your question.

Spellcheckers aren't perfect, and if you had one that spelled every possible word or spelling variation out there--say something akin to the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language, the program would probably be so huge, you wouldn't be able to put much else on your hard drive. Sometimes, it's just good "studenting" to go to a dictionary and look things up. Remember also, that a spellchecker will put in what it "thinks" is right, and sometimes that is the totally wrong word.

There is no substitute for a good, working human brain. Use yours alongside your spellchecker.

    Good luck!

Spell check is useless with anything other than plain English. Use a foreign expression such a vice versa, and it calls you an idiot. But I must admit that it is pretty darned good with English.

You are not spelling it correctly. It is spelled: Diatomaceous

As in, diatomaceous earth...better known as, cat litter.
