Cold PC, Slow Performance?

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with 120GB HDD and 256MB Ram (I know, rubbish specs but oh well) I have optimised it with CCleaner, Defragmented it with Defraggler and Protected it with ESET NOD32.

I got up this morning and turned it on. It was cold in the room, it took about 5 mins to turn on. Normally takes about 2 mins. I turned it off and put the heating on. Then the PC took its normal 3 mins to turn on.

Does a computer run slower in cold or hot areas??

Thanks in advance

Update:

I have done something to it(not sure what) it now normally starts up in about 1.5mins but now when cold 4 mins

Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.

Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software's, install new devices,

download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.

This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.

Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.

    Clean registry make pc faster.

Keep limewire off, that's a big source of viruses which will slow your comptuer down. Otherwise, as long as the program doesn't use a lot of resources (something like Photoshop) or let in viruses (like limewire) you shouldn't see a problem. Get some good anti-virus software on there (I use Avast, which is free and I never have problems) and use it. Every now and then you need to defragment the hard drive and get rid of any files and programs you no longer use. Oh, and keep the number of shortcuts on your desktop to a minimum, too many can slow you down. RAM will make your computer run faster, but only to an extent. If you have an older computer with slower hardware, all the RAM in the world won't help. So you might consider upgrading to 1gb of RAM, but unless your going to upgrade to Vista or you run demanding programs (again, like photoshop) I don't really see any reason to go above that.

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C

    First open CCleaner

Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.

To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:

Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.

Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.

afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.

The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.

If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)

The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).

Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.

Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.

A computer will run slower in hot areas.

and I think you can speed up by the following ways

1.run a antivirus software to scan your computer fully.

virus usually impacts the speed of computer.

If there is no virus, see the possible reasons that make computers slow down and solutions.

2.Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is too fat or with some errors, computer's performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors.

If you are not familiar with registry, don't remove files away from it and clean up it easily for you may delete important things that will make your computer in trouble. You'd better choose to use a professional registry cleaner, personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it's safe to operating system.

3.There must be too many programs start up automatically when you start your computer.Run a registry optimizer or cleaner to stop those unnecessary start-up programs.

4.Have you ever clean up your computer since you bought it? If the answer is never, I am sure that there are lots of junk files on it. Junk files is also one of reasons that will cause computer slowing down. You'd better delete them regularly.

2,3,4 can be realized by a registry optimizer.

5.If a registry optimizer doesn't work, add RAM or do a fresh reinstall of windows. Before you do a reinstall, please remember to back up.However, you should know that frequent reinstall is harm to hard disk.

6.Put programs on other drivers ,not C driver, because commonly C is for operating system. And defrag hard disks every 2 months.

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Dont worry about it dude. Sounds like coincidence but it is possible that some cold could cause it to ask funny depending on the actual temp. 65 would not cause anything, 35 would cause major problems over time.

unless its excessively cold it will actually run faster when cold

even 2 mins is pretty slow, does it login faster if you login as administrator?

if so then its just a profile problem, its worth recreating your windows profile as they do get kinda bloated over a period of time - http://www.computer-adviser.com/windows-user-accou...
