Is my song choice a little suggestive?

I'm thinking of trying out for my high school's spring musical either this year or next year. I'm not sure what the play will be, so the song I'm thinking of trying out with could change, but I was thinking of singing "Out Tonight" from Rent. I've been practicing it and I'm getting better, and it shows off the vocal range nicely. The only problem is that it's a little suggestive. In the play, the woman who sings it is an exotic dancer and the lyrics sort of reflect that.

These are the lyrics, if you don't know them already....

What's the time?

Well it's gotta be close to midnight

My body's talking to me

It says, "Time for danger"

It says "I wanna commit a crime

Wanna be the cause of a fight

Wanna put on a tight skirt and flirt

With a stranger"

I've had a knack from way back

At breaking the rules once I learn the games

Get up - life's too quick

I know someplace sick

Where this chick'll dance in the flames

We don't need any money

I always get in for free

You can get in too

If you get in with me

Let's go out tonight

I have to go out tonight

You wanna play?

Let's run away

We won't be back before it's Christmas day

Take me out tonight (meow)

When I get a wink from the doorman

Do you know how lucky you'll be?

That you're on line with the feline of

Avenue B

Let's go out tonight

I have to go out tonight

You wanna prowl

Be my night owl?

Well take my hand we're gonna howl

Out tonight

In the evening I've got to roam

Can't sleep in the city of neon and chrome

Feels too damn much like home

When the Spanish babies cry

So let's find a bar

So dark we forget who we are

Where all the scars from the

Nevers and maybes die

Let's go out tonight

Have to go out tonight

You're sweet

Wanna hit the street?

Wanna wail at the moon like a cat in heat?

Just take me out tonight

Please take me out tonight

Don't forsake me - out tonight

I'll let you make me - out tonight

Tonight - tonight - tonight

I could just sing part of the song.... I'm not sure what to do. Should I pick a different song, or stick with this? Thanks in advance :)

Update:

I don't think that "stripper" qualifies as a personality trait. And you would be surprised to hear how many students in high school can belt like Rosario Dawson. But otherwise i think you're right, so thanks Jess.

Singing "Out Tonight" is a bad idea for so many reasons. All songs from RENT are just as overdone as Wicked because the musical is relatively new. It requires too much of a belt and you probably don't have strong enough of a voice for it; you aren't Rosario Dawson. Also, audition songs should be school-appropriate. This is why you never hear "Bring on the Men" at a "Chicago" audition even though that song would suit Velma very well. Lastly, if it's a Rogers and Hammerstein or Disney musical, you are just wasting your time learning this song! You are supposed to sing a song that not only suits your voice and PERSONALITY (I know you are not a stripper) and the STYLE of the show to tell the directors you can adapt your voice for that particular musical. Songs from RENT would only be appropriate for pop-style musicals, and if that's the case, I'd still suggest finding something that not everybody and their mothers are singing. You want to stand out! And I guarantee you, you'll be chastised for your song choice. Please pick something else!

Feva For the Flava- Hot Action Cop (this has obtained to be the fine one- the foremost lyric is "what do I need to say to get within woman?") Bad Touch- Bloodhound Gang Convict- Akon Ft Snoop Dog (most likely plenty of rap songs) Your Body Is Wonderland- John Mayer Lets Get it Started- Black Eyed Peas I Wanna Sex You Up- Color Me Bad Rock Your Body- Justin Timberlake The Way You Move- OutKast
