Why do the tv's in my house not sync?

The tv in the kitchen is 7-8 seconds ahead of the one in the living room. It makes it impossible to watch a game or something on both tv's.

Does anyone know what the problem is? It happened after the switch to digital tv.

ps - the one in the living room uses a cable box, does that affect it?

The Cable signal is acquired and distributed by them from satellite services. The time it takes for the signal to make the round trip from the satellite is the cause for the delay you see. The kitchen set gets its signal from a local transmitter which doesn't have this delay.
