Girlfriend bought me a 6ft Boa...?
My girlfriend bought me a 6ft Red Tail Boa for my birthday (I've owned snakes before, but nothing bigger than 3.5ft, and never a boa or python), so my question is: how often do you feed these, and what should you feed them? I've seen online that some people feed them rabbits or large mice, but how often do you feed them, and do I kill them first? My previous snakes have eaten dead mice, goldfish, or other little snake foods, but nothing as large as a rat...
Its coming with all the accessories, tank, heatlamp, etc...
Thanks in advance for the help!!

So I should feed it approximately 2 times a month, something a little larger than the thickest part of it's body?
Should I ask the previous owner if the food was alive or frozen that he/she fed it? I thought you shouldn't switch it up like that?
*** Sorry, should have added, I'm from the USA, Wisconsin to be exact. I will have a seperate area to feed the snake also.

Please note I am guessing you are referring to Red Tail or Rainbow boas. Adults should be fed every 7-14 days, prey should be 1 to 1.5 the size of the snakes largest part. So for this snake jumbo rats or small rabbits. I prefer to use frozen/thawed. Most adults will easily take prekilled or frozen with in a few tries, so even if it was on live prey it is usually easy to convert. Where you live has no effect on the proper temperature, 80-85°F with a basking spot around 92°F, or humidity, 50-70%. It is not necessary feed to outside the cage, nor is it advised. The concept is false, you will spend more time handling and being in the cage to clean, change the water, etc. Experienced keeper, especially of giant snakes, feed in the cage and use hook training. Some snakes are going to have feeding, defensive, and/or cage aggression regardless. Which every option you choose, fine, just under stand this.

Most girls I know own a vibrator or something along those lines. Please don't stress about it as it means so little. Sometimes girls feel horny & want a quick fix when their bf isn't around - I'm sure you have a quick fix too sometimes! Nothing beats the real thing believe me. A vibrator etc is a quick fix, that's it nothing more. There is no comparison to the real thing, the real thing wins all the time. Don't feel inadequate about it - she hasn't got it cause you are not satisfying her, she's got it for when you are not around and she needs a fix. It is a totally normal thing for a girl to own. Try to see it this way and talk to her. You could even use it with her - if she is up for that - some guys I've been with love using vibrators on a girl. I have a boyfriend and I still use a vibrator from time to time. He knows & it doesn't bother him. It doesn't bother him because I explained to him that I do not use it because he doesn't satisfy me, I use it because some times he just isn't around when I feel horny. Simple as. This could be in the morning & he's already gone to work, during the afternoon etc, etc. There will always be times when your partner isn't around. Yes, girls can use their fingers but that way can take a while (& they aint exactly penis shapped & aren't capable of really hitting the right bits!) With a vibrator it's all over very quickly! It does exactly what's asked for - a quick fix. I do not use my vibrator all the time as I'm not on 24/7 horn mode. The real thing is much better, I can assure you and it's a million times better than any vibrator! Its over very quickly with a vibrator, there are no feelings involved. The real thing entails feelings, being at one with some once, feeling like you are sharing something very special, enjoying pleasing you partner, talking, foreplay, something that lasts longer than 2 mins, the build build up to having sex, etc & to me that's the best sex. These are things that a vibrator can not provide! If you were horny and wanted a quick fix but knew using your hand would take a while but using a sex toy meant you achieved what you wanted in 2 mins what would you choose? Like I said you should not stress over her having a vibrator, it really is no biggie. It is nothing to feel inadequate to, if you were inadequate in the bedroom, believe me she wouldn't be buying a vibrator, she would be kicking you to the kerb. I've been there & so have many of my freinds. If a man is bad in bed we finish with him, we don't stick with him & buy a vibrator .

you need to feed it about once a fortnight on small rabbits. you don't say what country you are from the reason that i mention that is because there are different laws in different countries with regards to feeding live prey to snakes. i would always feed pre killed prey to my snakes as there is always a chance that the prey item that you are feeding could injure your snake. i have seen many snakes that have had their eyes scratched and been bitten by the prey because the prey are fighting for their lives. also i would feed your snake outside his/her tank because then when you put your hand in simply to get your snake out he is less likely to strike you because he she isn't associating his her viv as the place where he she gets fed. also when you have fed your snake you need to put him her back int his her tank and make sure that your temperatures are right so that the snake can easily digest the food. i own four red tailed boas and 14 corn snakes 12 pythons and a cobra. (i have my D.W.A. licence.) if you could please tell me what country you are from, how old the snake is and what sex it is then i could help you a bit more. I work in a reptile shop in uk and i have been around snakes for the last 25 years. also the reason that i need to know what country you are from is so that i can suggest what temps to have your viv. if you live in usa then please tell me what state. thanks.

He needs to eat once a week unless he is shedding. He could eat a jumbo rat, a large rat, a bunny, or chicken from your supermarket if he will eat frozen. You do not have to kill the animals for him to eat. I would try frozen before you try live just in case hes used to frozen. If he is used to frozen food he might not thin his food will bite him back.
Good Luck!
