All species, including humans are constantly evolving. With every new generation there are approx. 100 new mutations. These mutations are "tested" throughout the animals life, and that of its offspring. If the mutation give the animal a higher chance of survival in its environment, then over time it will reach across the whole species. This is why evolution takes thousands and millions of years to work.

A weird thing with humans is that we have inherited emotions into this process. If someone had a mutation that gave them an edge on survival, but an unattractive appearance, it will not be passed on.

yes, humans are evolving. I like the answer from Brian J , he makes a lot of sense. i would just like to add that in genetics, there are dominant and recessive genes. these genes are constantly being randomized. If the dominant gene is paired with the recessive, then only the dominant will show, but the recessive can still be passed on.

However, this doesn't mean that the dominant gene is better, it just shows up when paired with the reccesive. So if the reccesive gene in better for survival, then that's the trait that will show up more often.

Didn't you just ask if dogs are evolving?

Organisms adapt to changes in their surroundings and everything. They change/evolve to do so.

some are. some are going backwards.

in the next millenium there will be two species of human.

one half will have deteriorated back to hunched, grunting neanderthal like beings. the other will be tall and intelligent and superior.

if you watch the film the time machine (from the book by HG Wells) it shows what i mean and is reasonably accurate if things carry on the way they are.

yes....evolving is adapting to your environment...i know some people say we are going backwards..'cause IQs are dropping and what not......there is now such thing...evolution doesn't know better or worse...for example being fat is a good trait in a cold area...not so good when you are being chased by a lion..... so whatever changes happen....we will adapt to it

Have we become immune to disease on our own? If we were evolving, we would not be dying of the same things--another question...why aren't chimpanzees and orangutans evolving into us?

  • 1 decade ago

Yes - As the environment changes, we must adapt to it.

That depends on if you believe that Evolution is a steady process, or if it occurs in rapid strides. Or if you believe that God made all of us about 600 years ago...
