Does your dog put its toys "away"?
My dog's toys are all kept in a certain box because he has so many of them.. He knows where they're kept and he'll go and get them out but so far, I'm always the one that has to pick them up and put them away!! Has anyone actually taught their dog to put it's toys away?

One of my BCs does and she did it without being taught at about 4-5 months old, however because we all laughed at her and she got lots of attention which is the same as praise, she continued at this point I knew exactly what BC mental ability she was, never stopping, always wanting to learn and even though I am an experienced BC owner, she has taught me so much more............so I taught her to press the peddle on the rubbish bin and put rubbish in, which moved on to flyball training, now she will load the flyball box herself, catch and reload while she is waiting for the other flyball dogs to come to training......it is great fun with her at fetes and events in entertaining the crowd when we are busy building the agility course or having a break, as I can set up the flyball box and jumps and she goes off and does her own display, loads the box, runs to the start line, jumps the jumps and catched the ball, jumps back over the jumps drops the ball then collects another ball to reload again.........although she is not too happy if another dog jumps the hurdles and releases her ball...thats the next training to do, so she can be ball loader

my dogs have a 3 boxes which have there toys inside and they put there toys away when told to or when i give them the look lol.
i taught my pit first cause he's 2years old and the oldest of 3 dogs and the other 2 just learned by watching him do it.
i think it took 3days to teach him how to do it and 2 more days to teach him to put the lid on his box after his put his toys in the away.
it was very easy to train him to do it cause he was already fully trained at a dog training school.

My sister's boyfriend taught his two labs to put their toys away. I'm working on it with my dog, but since we're in the process of packing for a move in the near future, I've kind of put new tricks on hold.

Maybe he's just doing a new trick. Some dogs do this thing with their toys. This is also an opportunity to teach him some basic obedience commands,

Technically, he taught himself :)
I would always say "Go get your toy!" Chance would go in this bin that we keep them in and get it out. There is a lever that you open it. I don't know how he got to finding out how to open it, but he did somehow! I was sitting on the couch and he was done chewing his toy, he put it away and rested his head on my lap! Now we do this every often so he knows its good:)

No, but let us know when you train your dog to put his toys away. It would be like trying to teach a kid to put his toys away..

The same with on of my dogs.
I don't know how he did it, but he learned on his own how to put his toys away.
When he is done playing with one he will bring it back to his toy box and get a new one.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of help.
Maybe he will learn to pick it up on his own
