This question about DVR's?
I know little to nothing about Tivo's or any other brand that you can use to record a TV program, my question is are there any DRV's out there that you can buy that you don't have a monthly fee to use? Thanks in advance. I do know that Tivo's you have a monthly fee.

You can build one from a PC. Mediaportal is a Windows app that will work with free TV schedules and record right to the PC for later playback. You can also just use it as a TV tuner, as long as you have the card. ATI tuners come with software that also allows you to use free TV schedules for recording etc. I have used each software package, and I like them both.

You can buy a video capture card for your computer and turn your computer into a DVR. Other than the capture card, there is no other charges. Check out WinTV.
