Looking for some fun pole exercises to do with my horse?
Hi, I jump in my lessons, but when I'm not having a lesson I am not allowed to jump unless I am supervised by my coach. So, i'm only allowed to do pole work. I was wondering what some fantastic exercises for pole work are? My horse is 15.2hh and has a medium stride. I've got about 20 poles to work with! Think you can help? Anything like...grids, gymnastics, bending lines, courses, ect. thank you! ohh if you have any books you reccomend it would be very much appreciated! I love the book "101 Jumping Exercises For Horse & Rider" by linda allen!! (here comes christmas, lol). thanks

Lucky you - I had three poles!
Anyway, I LOVE Cavalletti:schooling of horse and rider over ground rails by Ingrid and Reiner Klimke
Gridwork: Jumping problems solved is good as well - most of the grids could be reduced to pole form
101 Arena Exercises/101 Dressage Exercises are two more of my favorites and both have quite a few pole exercises

I had the same problem. I set up everything i could think of.. i did gymnastics so the poles were set up as a bounce, and there was about 5 of them. i put 2 poles near the center of the ring on the diagonal so i did a figure 8, going over one at the center, and doing a flying change over it. I did gymnastics with a one stride, then a two and then a three, and so on. I practiced going over poles from tight turns, and I did lots of courses. I found that once i got the hang of it, pole work was really fun and it helped my jumping a lot. hope this helps, and good luck!! :)

In the book "101 Jumping Exercises for Horse and Rider," about the first 30 are pole exercises.
