The National Socialist German Worker’s Party was a small, insignificant, ultra-nationalist political party, Hitler had, originally, been sent to spy on the party, he ended up leading the party. The Nazi party really gained support after a group of industrialists decided to fund the party in general elections because it was seen as a potential competitor to the rising communist party, spreading from the Russian Revolution.

The Nazi party came to power because Germany was in economic turmoil and people were enchanted with the Nazis, thinking they could pull them out of depression. Hitler was simply an outspoken party member who could articulate the problems and solutions to the public. There was also prevalent use of propaganda.

Hitler promised to reunite Germany with Austria,to rebuild the military and restore national pride.Anti-semitism was fuelled by huge public rallies parading Hitler youth as the aryan ideal.Hitler's infamous oratory blamed the jewish people for all of Germany's problems.As far as the rest of the world was concerned he considered weak and inferior.

Nazism arose in Germany after their loss of WWI in 1918. They were in extreme strife due to the Versailles Treaty. There was a loss of nationalism, pride, and money. So when Hitler came, he rekindled the loss of patriotism with all of his zeal. Basically, he was supported immensely because he promised fast fixes, he was empowering, etc.. His party was extreme (National Socialist, known as Nazi), and frankly, that's what the people wanted. Softness had gotten them nowhere in the past.
