is there a way for me to view files on a DVD-R?

my friend burned me photoshop and counterstrike on a DVD-R disk. but i put it into my laptop and it doesn't read the disk at all. i think my laptop doesnt have a dvd reader but i don't know if there is a program or something that can help me get the files. here is some info about my laptop: it is a dell latitude with windows xp and where the little CD slot is it says compact disk re writable high speed. please help thanks

    Sorry you won't be able to view the files because your drive only reads cd's. The only way to view this is to upgrade your cd drive to a DVD drive.

    1. Your friend had to have 'closed the session' properly when he burned the DVD-R for other DVD players to read it.

    2. Yes, you need a DVD player on the computer you are trying to view it with.

    3. Beware of using any hacked copies of Photoshop. When you start it up, it looks for an internet connection and reports your usage to Adobe without you even knowing it. Next may come the knock at the door. Want to risk that, really?

    If their IFO,s, VOB, and others you will need a dvd software, program, like powerdvd, windvd etc. I dont know what the extentions your are working with.
