All I remember is that the main character's name was Alanna and that she was a lady knight.  I think it was a book series.  What was the name of that book/series, and who wrote it(them)?

I believe you are referring to the character Alanna of Trebond from the "The Song of the Lioness" series of books by Tamora Pierce.  There are four books in the series, "Alanna: The First Adventure", "In the Hand of the Goddess", "The Woman Who Rides Like a Man", and "Lioness Rampant".

maybe its called Alanna the lady Knight? or "the first knight to be a lady" or "The lady knight" or "Alanna" or "the story of Alanna the brave knight" or.............

Oh man, now MY brain is spinning...that sounds familiar to me...was it the Dragonlance series? specifically the Chronicles Trilogy
