my contract is 12 months fixed term contact part time, am i entitled to sick pay?
I have had a couple of days off sick over the past few months, well two days last month and again I had to take a couple of days off sick this week but I am not going to be paid, I do not have enough money to pay my rent. Is the company right to not pay me any sick pay?
I had 4 days off last week because my daughter was sick and the company wouldnt pay me anything for that week either!
If they are right to not pay me, how can i make up the loss of earnings, can I claim anything from the benefit department?

It would say in your Contract of Employment is you are or are not entitled to sick pay
Sick pay is not a legal requirement, only holiday pay is
Did you put in a sick line when you were off work, if so you can claim Statutory Sick Pay be sending your sick line to the DHSS.
You can't claim anything if you were off sick to look after your daughter, but you could have asked for it as paid holiday at the time .

Obviously not if you haven't received it.
The law dosn't state in the uk that employers have to pay sick pay only statutory (which is peanuts) even if your a full time employee its all down to company discretion.
Read your contract of employment and if you are really struggling to pay your rent etc then contact your local social security office but you will need proof of earnings take home etc and it may take a while to sort out. But i would be careful if i were you a fixed term contract can be terminated easily and you sound like your a little too sick too often.

If you want to claim from the Benefits Office, you would have to show a sick line and it would probably take a couple of weeks for a decision to be made. They never seem to do things quickly over there.
I think if they state in the contract, what their stance is with part time sick pay, then that's how it is.

This should all be covered in your contract. However, most contracts do not provide for benefits as you are not an employee of the company - this includes sick and holiday pay. Contractors usually get paid only when they show up.

Have you read the contract? It should all be plainly stated in the document, (that's why they call it a contract dear).
