Wrong country. He said Afghanistan, not Iraq.

I think it is apparent you don’t “understand” what is going on there. I personally feel like the main objective is Afghanistan and I think they need to finish the job there. I will support the men/women deploying there, no matter how long it takes. And that is coming from me, a woman who has her husband on his 7th deployment to Iraq.

Obama always stated in his campaign he wanted to continue the mission in Afghanistan. I am not an Obama fan, but at least I have a concept of what our National leaders intend.

    It's Afghanistan...

Those involved in the Military know exactly what they are signing up for. I understand your compassion towards those who serve, and i appreciate that and i share in your concern. But, you need to understand why the U.S. is involved and why it is important that we succeed. It's not just a campaign to find Osama bin Laden. It's much larger than that.. We are at war with Radical Islam. Most of which originates in the Middle East. The rogue government which had control of Afghanistan (Taliban) was integrated with the organization who attacked us on 9/11 and continue to distribute terror all in the name of Allah. There is no amount of reasoning or rational discussion you can have with people who kill for religion. The best route we can take is creating an environment where that kind of theology cannot thrive. And that's what we have been trying to accomplish the last 8 years not only in Afghanistan, but Iraq as well.. We cannot allow governments in that region, or any other region for that matter, to continue to cater to this violent ideology.

Im sure the government knows a lot more of whats going on than us. I agree but disagree at the same time. I agree in the case that if i was a soldier in Afghanistan and i heard about soldiers in Iraq getting to go home, i would be a little upset and i would want those troops to come to Afghanistan to help out with the problem. But i disagree in the case that valuable American lives are getting wasted for the fact that THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT IS WEAK AND CANT TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. Also what i dont like, is Obama wants to teach the Iraqi's army OUR strategies and tactics of war so they can build up a stronger army. I disagree with teaching them 100%. We have already taught the Afghani's our tactics and look how it turned out, theyre using our own military strategies against us. I dont know about you but i sure as hell dont want to see this in the future again.

Well, I haven't thought too much about it since we're withdrawing troops from Iraq. The additional 30,000 troops are going to Afghanistan; different country, different operation.

First off, I know what you meant to say was Afghanistan and I won't jump on you for it. Simple error ;) Now, Obama gave us all the impression that he was going to immediately work on withdrawing our troops from overseas. He pushed himself as the anti-war candidate and even came up with time tables for troop withdrawals beginging close to his inaugration. So far he has not lived up to what he said. He is a politician and it would serve everyone well not to listen to what any of the politicians say. Some may mean well, and others are scum. Which one Obama is is up to you to decided, I have my own opinion on him. Regardless, there is a lot of information Obama did not have access to before he was President and I am sure that this new information influenced his decision. He should not have promised anything without having all the facts plain and simple. He misled people (including myself). I do believe we need to get out of the Middle East and the rest of the world as soon as is prudent. We are not the world's police force and our presence in the world complicates things and creates more problems.

Troops still need to go to Iraq to spell the ones who've completed their tour of duty there. Soldiers who spent last Christmas in the field deserve to be home with family for this one.

Its the prudent thing to do (sending them to Afghanistan, not Iraq, by the way)...I'm not happy about it but let's hope they can get Bin Laden and end this mess sooner.

We have a mission to accomplish. A mission that was assigned to us by the POTUS. He is giving us the tools we need to finish our mission. Then we'll come home. That is what we want and we are the ones fighting.
