I am seriously not a nut, but it's back now. I haven't a clue what I did/didn't do, but ... it's back!

Right click on the top tool bar and make sure you have a check mark in menu bar. That bar has the commands for file, edit, view, favorites, tools, help
You can also copy and paste by left clicking and highliteing the area you want then hols down ctrl & C to copy and C & V to paste it into your work.
I use this function all of the time.
