I have written poetry and prose since first grade. I do not have formal training. I started posting poems on a poetry workshop a year ago and have learned a lot. Since then I have published several poems and continue to submit my work. My personal experiences usually motivate my writing.

  • How can I recover my 'downloads' file from my mac trash?

Accidentally deleted my download file into trash. All my pictures are there. How can I 1) recover the pictures/other data and 2) put the downloads icon back on my desktop?

I do not want to buy software to do this.

There must (?) be a way to do this. I am new to mac and don't want to make things worse by playing around with it.

Would system restore work? Where is system restore on my macbook air?

    SOS!!!

  • What is this sax, specifically? I have recently come across a tenor saxophone. It is engraved VITO and says Japan and 020385.?

At first I thought 020385 was the serial number, but now I think it is the date the sax was made. From my research I think Vito is a 'student' grade sax made by Yamaha which seems well regarded based on what I've read so far. The word VITO is stenciled on the sax. I would like to learn more about this sax but cannot find the serial number. I have looked in and outside the bell/horn and various other places, to no avail. If I could find the serial number I could find out for sure what actual model this is, although I think it might be a YTS-23 (not sure.) Inside the case, there is a part for the sax that says Leblanc on it, and I am aware of Leblanc and that this company had a role in making saxophones and I think importing parts from Japan and assembling them in Wisconsin.

I realize I can go to a store that buys and sells and refurbishes musical instruments to learn more about this sax, possibly for free, however, in case I receive an offer to buy it I don't want to walk in entirely ignorant of what I have and 'give it away.' It's not that I think the sax is anything special. It's not like it's vintage if it's only 20 years old, but it might be worth more than the $50 I paid for it at a garage sale.

Can anyone help me out? I've been to the two or so websites that claim to have serial number information to help identify the sax however if I can't find the serial number they aren't any good to me.

  • How Can I take a glass tabletop and attach it to a wrought iron pedestal and make it look good?

I bought a wrought iron pedestal which lacks the glass top. I found the right size glass top to put on it, but of course it will slide (not be stable) unless I somehow attach it to the center of the wrought iron pedestal. I want to do this in an aesthetically pleasing way. In order to store it during the winter, it would be ideal if however I attach the glass top could easily be removed.

Does anybody have any inexpensive ideas? I am in the resale business so I don't want to spend a lot of money on this but I want it to look good and be safe.

  • 4 children inherit their mother's half of the house she owned with her 2nd husband. The husband wants to charge the children rent. Can he?

The husband of the deceased is not the children's father. The house was a joint tenancy between the deceased and her husband. The deceased woman's spouse has proposed to the children that they share in the taxes, property insurance, utilities and maintenance now that they are inheriting their mother's share of the house.

The children do not live there. In fact, 3 of the 4 live out of state. The children assumed the deceased's husband would continue to live there, which was fine with them, and they would visit from time to time; but now he seems to want to force them to share in the cost of something they don't use.

    Can he legally do this?

  • How does co-ownership of a house work when the deceased has left her half of the house to her children while her husband owns the other half?

The woman in this situation remarried after her (first) husband died. When she passed away she left her half of the house she shared with her second husband to her four children, all adults.

Therefore, the surviving spouse owns his half of the house and the four children own their mother's half of the house.

Are there legal rules or typical guidelines for co-ownership of the house between the four children and the still living spouse or is this something that is worked out between the individuals? (Or is it both/somewhere in the middle?) When whatever arrangement is determined by the five parties, should a formal (legal) agreement be drawn up to protect all parties?

This is in the State of Massachusetts.

  • How much should I report my sales on my tax forms?

I've begun selling antiques and vintage items in a small 10x10 space in a really great and affordable antique store. Other than Social Security, this is my income until I tap into my retirement account, probably several years from now.. Some items I buy I make great profits on when I sell them. Other items not so great. I'm trying to figure out what to declare on my taxes in terms of what I bought items for and what I sold for. I'm looking for an industry guideline of some sort. I keep records, but in this economy I need every dime I can get. I don't expect to make more than a few thousand dollars a year doing this. It's just to help pay for health insurance and so forth. Is the IRS going to come after me if I fudge a little?

  • credit on unused United Airlines ticket?

I have a Chicago/Paris/Chicago business class ticket from 1999 that I never used. United told me several years ago it was still good. I just sent it to them asking how to reissue/use the ticket (for Paris or any United destination). What are my chances of getting a credit for a partial or full refund or for them to reissue the ticket? I assume I'd pay a 'change fee'.

  • Rx for Nitroglycerin and Atenolol?

My 67 year-old sister's cardiologist has prescribed 12.5-25 mg. per day of atenolol for her 4.4 size aneurysm. (She can adjust the dose if 25 mg. makes her too sleepy or dizzy.) After this, her general practitioner prescribed her with nitroglycerin. I am concerned because those two drugs taken together could lower her blood pressure to an unsustainable level very suddenly. She could pass out anywhere and hurt herself. Does anybody know why somebody with NO signs of angina would be prescribed nitroglycerin, especially when on atenolol? She has no other heart disease diagnosed at this point.

  • I have an antique milk can that says 'Borden's N.Y. 1956" imprinted on the lid.?

The inside of the can is tin. The exterior is painted a light sage green and has a Scandinavian design hand-painted on the perimeter of the lid and around the top 'band' of the can. How can I learn what, if anything, this can is worth? I think vintage milk cans, with some exceptions, are not worth much but thought it would be fun to find out if this is worth anything. It's in excellent condition.

  • What is wrong with my Jenn-Air referigerator door? It squeaks like a door in a haunted house.?

It is a refrigerator freezer. The refrigerator side door suddenly began this loud, whiny squeak and nothing I've lubricated the door with helps. It is model JRSD2250.

  • Why does my Jennair refrigerator door suddenly squeak like a door in a haunted house?

This is a frost free Jenn-Air refrigerator freezer, model JRSD2250.

It has begun to squeak, and I am not kidding, it sounds like a door in a haunted house. It's a loud, whiny squeak that does not respond to WD40. This sound happened almost over night, giving me the idea that some critical part, or a bolt, or a washer, or something related to the door function, has worn out or let go. It is the 'refrigerator' door. The freezer side door is fine.

Would appreciate help from anybody out there to diagnose this problem.

  • What are the tiny red spots on my sister's inner arm that look like little blood clots?

I have noticed tiny red spots on her right inner arm near her elbow area. They look like pin pricks or tiny burst vessels and over a few days' time they expand to the size of about a pencil eraser. Then they fade and disappear within a week. I have asked her about them. She says she has not bruised herself but when she touches these spots she says they sometimes feel slightly tender. She says she has asked her primary care physician and her dermatologist about them. Her PC physician ran a blood test and said nothing came up. Her dermatologist said these are "age issues." My sister is in her late 50s.

She is on synthroid for thyroid replacement hormone and atenelol to keep her BP low due to a small aortic aneurysum and a condition called Long QT syndrome as well as another heart condition called Patent Foramen Ovale.

Should I be concerned for her? What other avenues should she explore medically? Why are these marks almost always on the right arm (yes, she is right handed.)

  • What is the scent of a daisy?

I am writing a sonnet in the style of the Romantics.

There are two lines I would like to replace by talking about the scent of the daisies, see asterisks (*). I Googled the scent of daisies and it looks like they are "scentless" flowers. Does anybody know if daisies have a scent or and if so, what is it? Here is the poem:

A multitude of daisies, light and gay,

before my eyes now boldly dares to sway.

Tis late, but I will watch in sheer delight,

collecting dreams that bid their fond goodnights.

And so I stay to breathe, for just a while,

the fragrance of each fairly floating smile.

What is wrong with such procrastination?*

Spring was late, to my sharp consternation!*

I would e’er remain with sun and shower,

each tossed nod of ev’ry laughing flower.

But now they bathe in dusk and musk of eve

and so I, too, reluctantly must leave.

The slivers of the sun sigh and recede

as lark skirls whisper lullabies to me.

    Thank you!

  • Can my spouse be forced to relocate to another work place?

    Facts:

    1) spouse works for ATT

    2) spouse is in IBEW (Union)

    3) ATT wants to force spouse to report from another job location which is two hours from spouse's home

    4) Spouse would have to travel two hours each way each day to new reporting site, but maintain same working hours on the job

    5) Management has not gone by "seniority system," i.e., spouse has more years than co-workers who do the same job and are receiving the same pay, but instead of management starting with these less senior employees, they have "cherry picked" my spouse and others with seniority, claiming less senior employees don't have the skills to do the job.

    6) spouse and others being "forced" are in late 50s

    7) spouse has told management "no" and management is holding the line

    DOES SPOUSE HAVE LEGAL RECOURSE?

HAS SPOUSE OVERLOOKED AVENUES OF REDRESS?

UNION HAS (IT WOULD APPEAR) GIVEN UP ON THIS.

NEED ADVICE AND WILL PROVIDE ADD'L INFO IF I CAN.

  • How long can escargot be refrigerated?

I bought 18 escargots at the grocery store about a week ago and put the package in the refrigerator. The escargots were packaged in a see through "basket" kind of package where you can see the product. It was completely wrapped but I do not think "hermetically sealed." We were going to cook them tonight and my spouse noticed the package says "keep frozen." The escargots were not in the frozen food section when I bought them although they were in a "cold case" kind of display (i.e., refrigerated but no glass doors to keep frozen.) They've been in the refrigerator in my kitchen ever since I brought them home.

So, the question is, in a week's time have they spoiled or can we safely cook them? Did the grocery store improperly put them in the wrong case? Thoughts about all of this? Safety issues?

    Thank you all!

  • Recommendations on wine presses, anyone?

I posted this elsewhere but did not get a specific enough reply. I am looking for an efficient, economical (best value) type wine press for doing volume work. My friend makes 100 egg rolls at a time and wants to use a wine press to get the water out of the veggies. Please don't tell me not to do this. Just tell me what you know about wine presses...the cheap, the moderately priced, the expensive, and which one might be up for this job.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Best wine press for taking water from vegetables?

My Chinese friend is looking for an inexpensive but efficient wine press. He would use it to crush vegetables to take the water out of them for use in making egg rolls. Has anybody ever tried this? Do you have any recommendations for what brand wine press to use, ball-park cost of the press, or alternatives you have used to accomplish this task with other appliances?

Also, if there is a better place to post this question (I thought of food and drink/wine/beer sections but since the use for the press is not wine related, thought somebody in ethnic cuisine might have better input.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thank you!
