What if Ronald Reagan, not Al Gore, had taken up global warming as his cause?

Here's a question for deniers. Suppose Ronald Reagan had decided that global warming was a serious problem and had started a crusade to fight it. How would you feel about it then?

Conservatives would have started calling Reagan a liberal. Liberals would have been shouting that it is not political, that even a conservative supports AGW. In other words, nothing would change.

Look I know you're in shock these days, and you feel like your whole world is closing in on you. But you'll be OK, really, this will pass.

But seeing as you posed a question, let me reply.Any person with a small amount of common sense can figure out an obvious con. Would I send money to Nigeria, and to a total stranger who says they want to make me rich. No, because it doesn't pass the smell test

I can give you more examples, but I won't insult the people out there whose ability to reason is working fine.

It's not the messenger, it is the message. That is a life lesson you should have picked up by , oh about the seventh grade.

So I guess it's back to the drawing board, I'll be looking for another innovative attempt..

For the most part, politicians aren't trying to 'solve' global warming, so much as using it to push their agenda.

Margret Thatcher has similar political ideas to Ronald Reagan and she used global warming to support her agenda of breaking the coal miners union and building nuclear reactors to support Britian's nuclear weapons program.

Most of the current crop of AGW believers wouldn't want their beliefs used to break unions or build weapons and would be highly sceptical of AGW if that's all people were using it for.

A political official's opinion has no bearing on whether the data and conclusions stand on their own merits. That whole crazy idea of testing hypotheses with experiments that yield reproducible results can end up as a thorn in a person's shoe.

Cute question but it's a little scary that you'd even post it as if it's the "deniers" who are preventing the scientists from proving their case in a scientific capacity. Remember, the burden of proof is owned by those making the claims.

    Climate change - real.

AGW - hypothesis w/ very little data, if any, to support the hypothesis.

It isn't the person who started the movement that is the problem though having a complete idiot like algore as a spokesman sure doesn't help. If Reagan made a habit out of doing things that stupid, he wouldn't have been a leader in the conservative movement. Conservatives don't follow stupidity just because some Republican has a particular opinion. If Reagan did that he would have destroyed his legacy as a great leader. Some things are just too ignorant and destructive to ever excuse.

Well, this isn't purely a hypothetical; Mad Maggie Thatcher's regime in Britain was instrumental in bringing the Global Warming fraud into the mainstream. This was done because the Thatcher regime was a political enemy of the coal miner's union, which they wanted to break.

In any case, it wouldn't matter a bit to me - but then, I'm not much of a fan of Reagan (although he did have some good policies, such as the Strategic Defense Initiative and his doubling of tariffs).

the novel severe Left is the biggest scam in human history. there is a few fact to anthropogenic worldwide warming. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that the novel Left has taken that and exaggerated it to advance the reason in the back of the novel Left.

personally I despised R Reagan especially what he did to PATCO and unions in general,so I would still be against the AGW money grab scam

Source(s): actually I voted for him in 1980 because Jimmy Carter was as big an idiot as we have in the white house now,but after he screwed union people I voted against him the next time

I'd think Ronald Reagan was a pompous hypocrite that didn't know what he was talking about, but my beliefs would still lean conservative.
