to see the difference between 2nd gen. and 3rd gen.. go into your settings, general and about. if your model code starts with MC you have the 3rd gen.

there is NO 3rd gen. 8GB its a starter model and still the 2 gen. spec, only the 32 and 64 GB are in the 3 gen., the 8 and 16GB (if you can get it) are still 2 gen. models.

The difference between a 2G & 3G iPod touch is more internal than external.

The 3rd gen has

600 MHz (200 MHz more)

256 MB RAM (2x more)

which makes it faster than its predecessor

the 3rd gen touch has NO camera.

the only thing about the 3rd Gen touch is that it uses the same internal stuff (processors, graphics engine and RAM) as the iPhone 3GS. Although it has a slightly lower battery life, it the 3rd gen touch has Voice control.

not a big difference, the graphics processor in the new iPod touch has OpenGL ES 2.0 capability. and 50% faster.(so they say)
