RX drug (Reglan) Have you taken it for breast milk supply?

I am currently taking Reglan for breast milk production. My daughter is 3 weeks old and is still too preemie to breastfeed properly. My question to you ladies out there is, Have you taken Reglan and did it work? It does not seem to be working at all for me. My milk is slowly diminishing daily with every pump. I was pumping 3 oz when I started and now I am down to 1 1/2 oz. I have been taking the Reglan for about 12 days now.. does it take longer to see improvement?

I appreciate any answers I can get from y'all. Thank you so much.

Update:

edited to add... I have a hospital pump (Medela) with both flanges. I do pump every 2 to 3 hours in the day and 2 times at night.

It HAS come to my attention that the Reglan is known to cause severe depression and if I come to that point I will discontinue use.

Fenugreek may be my next step as I am beginning to think that this medicine is not going to provide the results I need :(

Fenugreek, More Milk Plus, and Domperidone all together worked for me. Domperidone is like Reglan without all the side effects- not available in the US so I had to order online. Inhouse pharmacy I think is where I got it. No adverse effects except for some mild cramping.

I am amazed that you were given an rx for Reglan without trying herbs, etc first. Reglan is supposed to be reserved as a last resort medication due to its propensity for severe side effects. I would recommend trying a combination of Fenugreek (3 caps 4x/day), Blessed Thistle (3 caps 3x/day) and Goats Rue (1 cap 1x/day). All available at natural foods type grocers. Fenugreek should not be your next step after Reglan though! My LC has also recommended having someone observe you pumping (if you have not already) to make sure you are doing it with the best technique. Are you sure you have the proper sized flanges? Are you using a hospital grade pump at home too? As far as night time goes, I wouldn't go anymore than 4 hours without pumping, even at night. Have you started nursing yet? This also tends to increase your milk supply. But remember also, pumping is NOT an accurate picture of your actual milk supply. Some women just do not respond to pumping and manage to feed their babies just fine at breast. I hope some of this information helps and best of wishes to you!

Reglan is not something I recommend due to its potential side effect of depression.

I would recommend you look into Fenugreek and blessed thistle.

Also, make sure you are using a good double electric breastpump AND pumping for 20-30 minutes every 3 hours during the day and at least once during the night. Pump for that long even if nothing is coming out to tell your body to make more.

My daughter was premature also, and my doctor gave me Reglan. It made me too sleepy, so I couldn't continue taking it. I didn't really feel it did much, though. The lactation consultant said it does not increase supply; it just helps with let-down. I would recommend Fenugreek. The Lactation consultant told me to take much more than the bottle recommended...9 pills a day...3 in morning, 3 in afternoon, and 3 at night for at least the first month. Warning...they do make your urine and sweat smell funny...like maple syrup. Kinda weird, but it does work.

i have never heard of using reglan for breastfeeding- but try to google it and see what you find.

I have never uses but have heard great things about fenugreek- i'm not sure what type of product it is or where exactly to buy it. But i've heard women say they bought it online, not sure if it requires a script or not- best of luck to you! Do some research and see what seems like it will work for you!
