What's the psyche behind greeting someone with "Is something wrong with you?"?
(in general) are there typically (masked) hostile intentions here? how does a person effectively counter this sort of psych-game?
cee-bee ... this was just "today's version" ... I answered .."uhh, what's wrong with YOU?" [feeling waay un-original, but irritated]
this person calls here and when I pick up the phone, first words I hear are : "who is this?"
very "off-setting" experience and it bothers me.
thank you Alberitch ... I appreciate the thoughtfulness behind your statements. It was an un-fun experience for me ... and I wrote this question with some adrenaline still residual in my blood ... not necessrily the best way to write, but 'humaness' gets the better of me sometiems

that would only make me defensive and pissed and I couldn't imagine how I would answer! Unless, of course I had blood running down my head or am actually physically sick-and need an ambulance, etc.
You could say, no and you? Or you could say, Yes-It's you!

A lot depends on exactly who the two interacting individuals are, and if they know each other or not(you weren't explicit in your comments). In other instances: the situation(in public, private); the tenor of the utterance(with annoyance, anger, as a simple inquiry, with a smile, etc., etc.).
Without knowing the "exact" specifics, I wouldn't hazard an analysis.
Sorry,
