Is it harmful to use outdated coffee beans?

My mother has some coffee beans that are six months outdated and I am wondering if it is harmful to grind and use them?

No, it is not harmful but the coffee will taste a little stale or "burnt".

    Source(s): Personal experience
  • It depends on when it was roasted...

the 'BEST BUY' date doesn't help in most cases because the coffee can be date 6 months to a 12 months out from the roast date depending on the company policy.

IF the coffee is TOO old the oil in the coffee can go rancid just like any oil. IF it does go rancid it can cause either stomach craps, diarrhea and sometimes violent vomiting.

I wouldn't chance it...Buy your mom some fresh roasted coffee beans...
