You might want to consider buying a PS3. This is a terrific solution for Blu Ray in my opinion. It has full Blu Ray capability with the added bonus of a web browser, gaming system, bluetooth connectivity, usb ports, WiFi and 1080p HDMI. It also looks sleek and can connect to your PC music and video library and play through your home theater system. Even better the price just came down $100.00 so for $299.00 you are basically getting a Blu Ray player gaming console media center. Cheapest PC on the market with Blu Ray by the people who invented it.

Just to add something to the comments below. The quality does match that of other players. Blu Ray is a format that supports 1080p and the PS3 does support Blu Ray 1080p. The quality is top-notch and uses a very similar player that you would find in any of Sony's Blu-Ray players. Also these guys were the first to invent the technology and introduce it to the market. The other manufacturers buy the technology from Sony. I have mine hooked up to a full surround through a high end Samsung LCD. I also have a few friends that have similar setups and like it very much. The new PS3 available also has a 120GB hard drive and faster processor than the older models.

Al-Gore definitely did not invent the internet and he never said he did either. Please get your facts straight. Actually there is no single person that invented the internet there are a host of people that all contributed to different facets of it being "born". If you want to know about Blu Ray it was developed around 2001 by a guy who went to Sony to actually develop the technology.

Make sure you get the Blue Ray from a market that gets fresh catches daily... Oh wait! You meant "Blu-ray"...

Well, I don't think there are any "god" models. They all pretty much have faults. Okay, I'll stop picking on your spelling :)

I wouldn't buy a PS3 just for Blu-ray. If you need a gaming system, maybe, but I doubt it'll match the quality of good stand-alone units.

I bought a Sharp Aquos unit and quickly returned it. It had no memory once you stopped a disc and would have to start all over. It also would not play the third disc from the Firefly series. This was not an isolated incident; I found forum posts by others with the same model not playing the same 3rd disc.

I ended up with a Pioneer BDP-51FD. It isn't a tiny featherweight unit like most. It has some heft to it and stands around 4" high, like a typical stereo component. Works really well, has a memory and plays everything I put in it. My suggestion is to look for a model you can afford, then Google it along with the word "reviews" and see what people say about it.

Source(s): I was with Al Gore when he invented the Internet and he invented Blu-ray shortly after.

to answer your additional details, the added bonuses are included in the $299 price tag of the PS3, provided you already have internet to hook the PS3 up to

as for stand alone bluray players, I've heard Oppo and Panasonic brands are good
