    Distance plane 1 is away from airport = (150 miles/hour)(2 hours) = 300 miles

    Distance plane 2 is away from airport = (200 miles/hour)(2 hours) = 400 miles

    If you make a picture, you can see that these create a right triangle. Then, the distance between them is:

    d^2 = 300^2 + 400^2

    ==> d^2 = 250000

    ==> d = 500 miles

    So the answer is C.

    I hope this helps!

    First write out the information given.

    * The two planes leave from the airport at 1:00 pm

    * One plane is traveling 150 miles per hour

    * The other plane is traveling 200 miles per hour.

    Now re-write what they are asking you: how many miles apart will they be at 3:00pm.

    so you know you started at 1:00p.m. and your ending point will be at 3:00pm.

    if you subtract 3-1 that would be a 2 hour difference.

    so now what you will do with that 2, you would multiply it by the 150 and 200 (because each one of those numbers is indicating the miles, and you will have to multiply by two to indicate how many hours[its sort of like an equation])

    now you will get 300 when you multiply 150 times 2. and you will get 400 when you multiply 200 times 2.

    and the last step since you are looking for the distance they are apart, you would have to subtract 300 from 400 and you will get 100. your answer choice B.

    plane A travels 2 hours @ a hundred and fifty MPH it incredibly is 3 hundred miles. plane B travels 2 hours @ 200 MPH it incredibly is 4 hundred miles. on condition that they are traveling at ninety° with appreciate to a minimum of one yet another, the version isolating them is: Sqrt(3 hundred^2+4 hundred^2) or 500 miles.
