why does rap have to be so degrading?

Most Rap music is like that because that's the music fans buy. For some reason people love to hear the same thing over and over again. If fans want something new stop supporting the artist and their music. Believe me when they start losing fans and money they will change up their style. Heck they are only producing the music that sells.

Well most of the rap you hear is like that. About..70% of rap on the radio sucks.

Maybe you're just listening to the wrong hip hop artists.

Plus, guys wanted to be players years before rap. Rock and roll had a big influence on kids back then too.

well then you'd probably be more interested in "hip hop" instead of "rap"... yes there is a difference between them... rap is the dirty south/west coast rap that mostly talk about material possessions... they mostly use 1-syllable rhymes... they often times repeat the same word... the hooks are horrible... the message of the song is terrible...

you should listen to more east coast hip hop... try the pharcyde, the roots, common, the beastie boys, wyclef, lauryn hill, the fugees, fun lovin' criminals, eminem, a tribe called quest, mos def, nas, wu-tang, gza, shaq (actually a decent album), redman, junior mafia... these bands will have more meaning to their lyrics... don't forget eminem... he is one of the best lyricists in rap... most rap may come off as offensive and vulgar but remember that rap is used to insult ones foes...

stop listening to so much lil wayne and ti and you'll rekindle your interest in rap... also, youtube rap battlers justice, thesaurus, bo-rat, and franco... they're tight!...

not all rap is like that. alot of rap is about other things like life struggles, and stories. so dont stereotype a whole genre from what a few artists are doing. its the same as saying why are all blacks from the ghetto, or why do all white people go to college.

You do realize that rap isn't the first type of music to mention these thing's in it's lyrics..?

From that standpoint your view seems somewhat racist.

Also, your completely generalizing an entire genre of music into one category. All are rock songs about drugs and sex? Are all metal songs about violence?

It's our culture that's to blame, not the music that represents it.

All rap aint like that, in fact back in the 90's most of it was about real stuff...not lil boy mess that these new kats be pumpin out.

That's why I only listen to Motley Crue, Van Halen and ZZ Top they know how to live.
