Business people are accustomed to typed letters, handwritten letters are time-consuming, hard to correct mistakes on and haave no advantage.
Thank you notes should be used at every opportunity and hand-written.

Almost everyone does typewritten letters these days. Which is why you should not do it.
If you want to be noticed, hand write your letter. Typewritten letters are often thrown away by the "gate keeper" who is in charge of filtering messages to the executive.
A hand written note ... thank you card ... Christmas card ... complaint ... or whatever often will get right through because it is different. When you are different, you are noticed.
