150cc Roketa (Chinese) scooter does not deliver power everywhere?

I blew something up, not sure what it's called, nor in fact, what it is. When the fuse is plugged in, the console has no power, I cannot read RPM, nor fuel level, can't use signals and the brake light fails. The starter relay is still powered, and I can short the leads to start the engine, though the actual starter button does nothing.

When the fuse is disconnected, of course I can start it with the kick, but I cannot do the normal electric start (yes, I know why, it's got no power), but the console works, signals work, brake light works, everything has more power.

I do not know if the battery is being charged when the fuse is connected, I haven't tested that, though I imagine that wouldn't be hard to figure out.

I had a puff of smoke appear wihen SOMETHING shorted while I tugged on the fuse wires. I suspect it's some sort of relay, or a voltage regulator, but I'm not sure. My best guess is that it's where three wires intersect on... a thing that I was unable to find a photo of on a parts website.

Best guess?

Update:

Thank you for your opinion Chris, however I did not cheap out. I bought what I could afford, it is 4 years old, and has had only a few minor issues. I've gotten my money's worth out of it. I only paid 500 bucks, and I needed what I got. Now I'd just like to be pointed to the right part to replace or repair so that I can figure it out without buying unnecessary parts. You, sir, are unhelpful. Go judge someone else.

Update 2:

Ok. I've identified it. The battery wire was worthless. It seperated entirely. I don't know if my puff of smoke was related, but it was likely just because the wire crossed the negative on its way out. So all I need to do is replace the wire.

One really helpful answer so far - not.

If you're pulling on things hard enough to cause a puff of smoke, what you've probably done is sliced a wire somewhere, thus causing a short circuit. Maybe you did blow up something that you can't find a photo of, but I can't see how it being a Chinese scoot is gonna make any difference. I accidentally sliced wires on my Honda once.

Maybe you could take a digital photo and upload it to Photobucket or a similar site, then post a link so we could get a look at it? In the meantime, try to figure out a likely place to find a cut wire - sharp edge on the frame, or something like that - 'cos if you replace the thing where 3 wires intersect without fixing the cause, it'll happen again.

    Edit: Cool. Ride on.

Could be a fuel vacuum problem at the tank cap. Try it again and when it starts to sputter, stop, put your ear to the tank and open it. If you can feel the engine rev back up then you have that problem solved. If you can hear it inhale when you open the cap you know one reason why a lot of riders think Chinese motorcycles suck!

I too have a low opinion of Chinese bikes but I,m not here to judge.Google"Dan's motorcycle shop manuals" type in your bike and see if there is a manual available. It's free and so are the downloads.

    Good luck.

you cheaped out and bought a chines peice of **** bike. now you have many problems with it a very short time after owning it. if you take it back to the place you bought it at i doubt they will fix it for you, probably just order a new motor. you should have bought a brand name bike.
