    Step 1

Relax and wait 5-10 minutes when your computer freezes. Sometimes, a process will terminate and your computer will return to a normal state. If after 10 minutes, the computer is still unresponsive, then you can move on.

    Step 2

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to access the Windows task manager. This may or may not work, depending on what the problem is. If you ARE able to access the task manager, view your list of running applications and look for the words “not responding.” Click the “processes” tab and highlight the process which is causing the computer freeze. Click “end process.” Wait a minute and see if your computer returns to normal.

    Step 3

Turn off your computer manually by pressing the power button. Perform this step as a last result if you’ve waited ten minutes and tried to access the task manager without success. Restart your computer and wait for it to boot-up completely. Do not open any programs, but move on to the next step to prevent the computer freezing again.

    Step 4

Perform a disc cleanup and defragment your hard drive. Select disc cleanup from the following location: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Select disc defragmenter from the following location: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. If the computer freeze persists after running these applications, move on to the next step.

    Step 5

Download the latest updates for your version of windows, which can be found on the Microsoft website or through your windows updater. Perform a full virus-scan and make sure your virus software is up to date. Some nasty viruses and Trojans can cause computer freeze and other computer problems. If your machine still locks up, move on to the next step.

    Step 6

Uninstall any programs that you no longer use, or that you suspect might be causing the computer freeze, particularly if it often becomes unresponsive while running. Always remove programs by selecting the Add/Remove programs option from your Control Panel.

    Step 7

Upgrade your drivers for any hardware you have installed, such as video cards, soundcards, etc. Visit the manufacturer’s website or refer to your documentation to find out where to download driver upgrades. If computer freeze, still occurs, more drastic measures may have to be taken.

    Step 8

Take the side panel off of your computer using a screwdriver to remove the screws, and spray the inside thoroughly with a can of compressed air. Many times, dust will have accumulated inside the hardware causing freezing, crashing, overheating, and even hardware failure. Clean your computer thoroughly, and then see if things run more smoothly. If not, you have one more option.

    Step 9

Reinstall windows. This is an absolute last ditch effort, and if it doesn’t fix your computer freezing problems, there may be nothing else you can do aside from getting a new system, or at least a new motherboard, processor, and/or hard drive . You may also consider taking it to a professional, to see which part of the computer is causing your problems and go from there.

The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the freezeing. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there’s no one size fits all approach. You can’t just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it’s nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That’s a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://computer-e-book-money.com/ to you ! You can try ! Good luck!
