Keyboard problem, please help!?

I just got this "new to me computer" at my work. I like to play Doom on Zdaemon multiplayer style. The problem is, now when I go to play the game, I use my keyboard wasd keys to navigate myself. But instead of it moving nice and smooth, like it did on my old laptop, it acts like I am continually taping the key down. This causes jerking motions, and I cannot navigate correctly. How do I make it so when the key is depressed, it will stop rapidly repeating the key which gives an undesired effect.

Update:

I dont believe it to be a graphics card issue. When I do move, everything is nice and normal graphics wise. But when I go to check the map or see whos in the server, when I push the key and hold it, its like I am pushing it every second. So the display pops up, and goes away instantly then pops up again. Previously when I hold the key down, the pop up would stay there until I depressed it.
