Global warming skeptics, can you give me a basic synopsis of the theory behind global warming and what the?
phrase "greenhouse gases" means? I know you don't believe but I just want to know if you have a basic understanding of exactly what theory you are either rejecting or haven't been convinced of yet, or if you are rejecting a theory that no environmentalist is actually proposing?
The reason why I ask this is that I recently had a conversation with a co-worker about this and he seemed to be rejecting the idea of global warming because he thought the theory was something completely different from what the theory actually is. As he stated it, yeah, I would have rejected that as completely absurd. But it bore no resembleance whatsoever to the theory of global warming I've read about and believe there is substantial evidence for. Not trying to convince anybody. I just want to get an idea if we are actually discussing the same thing when we talk about global warming.
James, I'm sure those are all very informative. But what I'm asking is, do you understand more or less what Al Gore, the IPCC etc, are saying is happening? Why do they/me say that human induced climate change is occurring? What is the basic theory about how it happens?
Digitaldave...there is nothing about Einsteinian physics that is common sense either. The theory that matter is composed of atoms and molecules and so forth is not common sense either. It's not easily observable to Joe Six Pack. I take it you disagree with most of modern science on the grounds that it's not common sense.

Some scientific information revealing the truth about global warming, when it happened and what probably caused it. And as well how many years, centuries or millennia it might be before the world warms up again from the coming ice age.

Well if you are unable to comprehend the reality that it is the sun that warms the earth when active and lets the earth cool when it is quiescent then I am very much afraid that no amount of education will ever be able to improve the capacity of a naturally liberal mind.

The basic theory is that man is producing carbon and that's trapping the Sun's heat on the Earth. Not that I have to prove anything to you, but green house gasses (the largest of which is water vapor) are the gasses that would act as a global green house. Ie. They trap heat on the Earth. With out these gasses we'd freeze and die.
If greenhouse gasses were people sitting in a NFL football stateum, they'd take up two seats.

some scientists are trying to say the earths temurture is rising because of mans polution. but the earths temputure goes up and down naturally right now the temputure has gone down the last few years that is why the news is calling it climate change now not global warming. the same people who are claiming global warming 30 years ago said we are going into a iceage. pollution might have alittle afect on the temputure but not enough to matter
