Another CBS Soap canceled, what do you think about it?

Oh my god first they cancel Guiding Light now As The World Turns will end in September of 2010. What the heck is up with Cbs getting rid of their shows. Just like GL i was a big fan of ATWT for many years and just cannot believe that it will be gone too. Why don't they just get rid of all soaps, might as well. What next will they cancel Y&R? Wouldn't surprise me any. It is getting ridiculous.

    I hate it.

To bad CBS doesn't care what the fans think about it.

And yes, even the mighty Y&R will fall under this "out with the old" trend.

    I think it is asinine.

Les Moonves, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Corporation, didn't appear to share Bloom's sentiment. In an interview with CNBC, Moonves clearly noted that axing As the World Turns was a business decision.

"The days of the soap operas have changed very much. Guiding Light left last year. As the World Turns will leave this year," Moonves explained. "They've had long and distinguished runs and their day is over."

“Is it the end of an era? Sort of,” Moonves later told the New York Times. "Only the special soaps are going to survive. It’s certainly the end of the client-owned soap. All good things come to an end, whether it’s after 72 years or 54 years or 10 years. It’s a different time and a different business.”

I think this sucks that As The World Turns is getting canceled because i watch CBS Daytime and As The World Turns is one of my favorite CBS dramas which i have been watching ATWT since mid-late may of 1993 and is was around the time that the four seasons opening/ Jelinda's theme was the intro for As The World Turns it will be sad when this drama goes off the air

I think reality tv has taken over for the soaps- Real Houswives, The Hills, etc. (even thought they're NOT 100% "real")

The old storylines on soaps of sleeping around, hiding babies's identities just isn't as entertaining as it used to be! Also, nothing is off limits in daytime anymore- bedroom scenes, gay storylines are so overdone now. What could any soap possibly do on daytime that can't be seen on TLC, Bravo or A&E?? Soaps will indeed disappear- Young and the Restless could be cancelled if those writers don't get it together and speed up these tired storylines.

Oh No. Believe me "Young and the Restless" along with "General Hospital" may be the last soap opera's canceled if they are canceled. I am not surprised. The ratings have dipped and advertising dollars are hard to come by. DVR and the internet make people watch the soaps later instead of when they first come on. But believe me slowly but surely the soap opera's in America will be extinct.

I think it sucks! I really like As The World Turns. I predict that in 5 years (or maybe sooner) CBS will have canceled ALL of their soaps. I guess it is cheaper for them to put on talk shows and game shows but it just shows how little they care about their viewers. I hope all the fans send an e-mail to CBS and lets them know how angry they are about this.

    See ya!

Ever since the writers strike the quality of televison and movies has decreased in my opinion and the soaps all across the board have way less quality. The writers don't care, their just spending up the money. Some of the writers are angry at the actors and want them to pay for not supporting them during the strike. Y&R will not be cancelled because they are the number 1 soap always.

Would not surprise me either,,,,,,, the writers' on Y&R seem to be pulling some of these story lines outta their a$$ >>>>>

I've watched Y&R since it began ( while in high school ) granted I have had to work over the years and there was a time when VCR recorders wasn't around { OMG... I'm so old ! } anyways...... yes > the writing sucks at the time and I would not be surprised IF it was on the Hit-List to be canceled down the road >>> BUT they better solve some mystery's...... LIKE Evil Adam's baby swap and IF Summer is the darling daughter of Jack ?

<> Bottom Line....... please don't cancel this soap !

actually Protector & Gamble owes both GL and ATWT- they want to get out of the daytime soap business- they have been losing money with both for yrs

now it's a tie between Days and OLTL for which soap is next to go-- OLTL will be the only NYC one left after ATWT goes off the air

I am sad as well. I have been watching Guiding light for 20 years and it is my favorite and only soap I watch. I hope that some other network picks it up. Cancelling the longest running daytime show is crazy!

it is the economy and all the moms that were stay at home have to go back to work now so that their families can survive . blame it on the economy . I know I cant believe they are canceling ATWT either and how many will there be when the economy bounces back ? none probably and all those actors out of work .
