Keyboard/Gaming problem!?

I play Doom muliplayer on Zdaemon. I recently got a new computer with a non usb keyboard.

Heres the issue...

When I go to play and I use the WASD keys to navigate, (or any other key needed) it pulsates. Basically when I hold the W key down to move forward there is a delay and its acting like I am pushing the W key multiple times in a row. Its not a graphics issue, because when I look around the room with my mouse, the game is very smooth. The game is from 94 so its not very hard to run. Why is it when I hold a key down, it pulsates rather than sending a continuous signal? Does this make sense? Another example is when I press the \ key to check who is in the game, it is supposed to stay visible until I release the key. Now it acts as if I am pushing the key repeatedly and the box pops up and goes away every second.

well i still play old doom

(need to really try 3d doom)

What it really sounds like is you have a cheap keyboard that only senses 3 key strokes at any given time. You might also be hearing a "Beep" from inside the computer itself when thats happening.

a Good gaming keyboard will let you press upto 6 keys at once, Logitech G series boards let you press (ftw) 12 keys at once, So no matter what even with both hands all pressing a key it'll still register all of them strokes.

Could also be that the "typmatic rate" is set to something strange in the Bios. (press DEL when you first boot your computer to get to bios), Just go there and poke around till you see a typmatic settings (usually in the 250-500kps range) and either disable it, or set it around 500. but disabled is prefered for gamers.

Typematic is the function that makes the keyboard record multiple taps instead of one single keystroke. sorta sounds like your problem, And if its not that then its most def the keyboards fault.

PC just repeats what you ask it to and nothin more :P

Control Panel/Keyboard. Either your repeat rate is way too fast or way too slow. Change it and see what's best. The delay is in the Repeat delay: slider. If you want the second pulse to come almost immediately, set it to short.

Old game doesn't like the new computer, or you need a different keyboard.

go to the games main menu screen > options > settings > graphics or video settings.....set everything to ''low'' or set screen resolution 800x600 to make the game run faster
