Tell ya what - there was a time when I became nearly obsessed with the dang things! So good! Yet, the problem that I ran into, outside of likely health problems of making this a staple of my diet were twofold: 1) I could only get them around once a year or if I found a girl scout stand, and 2) Girl scout cookies have become exponentially more expensive. I'm 23 now I remember around 10-15 yrs ago when they were $2.00 a box and I thought that was expensive, and my mom said she remembers them being like $1.25 or a $1.50 or so. Anyway, this last season, if I remember correctly, a box of girl scout cookies were $3.50 a box! I also read that certain types of cookies of the girl scout line, where having a reduction in the amount of cookies per box rather than increasing the cost even higher! Really, the cost of production and raw goods has really gone so high that you are going to reduce the number of somoas or tagalongs from the already dwindling number per box at a staggering $3.50 per box!?!?! You've got to be kidding me! Somebody somewhere has financed a personal airplane or yacht!

Now to your question. The best thing I've found: I one day walked into a "dollar tree" or "family dollar" store and found a company that makes these square chocolate mint cookies. They are in a green and clear rectangular package and of course coated in the chocolate covering our beloved thin mints have. The cracker is also of of the crisp chocolately minty crisp that only thin mints can offer - note that the actual cookies are square and probably 2x2 inches or a little less each and in a single long row. THESE WERE A FIND. They are pretty much the most nearly exact thing to Thin Mints I've ever found, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like them in a national grocery type chain or department/general merch/grocery conglomerate store either - in price or in closeness to the thin mint recipe/taste. Oh yeah and one more thing - only a dollar! Now, I've never thought about buying food or candy from a dollar store mostly because I wasn't really sure of how often the stock was rotated, but I decided to give them a shot and then next time, I bought up all the ones that they had. Its been a year or so since I've gone, but I don't see why they wouldn't be there. Check it out sometime.

Family Dollar is carrying a whole line of cookies to "mimic" the entire line of GS cookies. So far I have tried the Thin Mint and the Carmel-Coconut ones and they taste the same and they are made by the same bakery. Plus they are only $1.50 a box!

Try Walmart! Go to the cookie isle and look, they have cookies there that are just like thin mints!
