yea if i understood right then logically both statements are along the same lines
first one : A non-violent....
second one: Negotiations
both non violent ways and they are both related because its a comparison of both bad armies or terrorist groups
first : stopped Hitler's armies.
second: Al Qaeda's...lay down their arms.
what he said is portraying how both organizations are evil people who cannot be stopped in a civilized way and need a war just like it took Hitler 2 wars to get the message

The comparison of Hitler to Al Qaeda seems to be a bit of a stretch to me. It is true that Hitler intended and Al Qaeda intends world domination, but Hitler didn't pray to Allah to help him make it happen, he used modern technology and his blitzkrieg was quite different from threats of terror. You could actually expect to stop Hitler because he deployed armies in a traditional front and our responce was equally direct. Despite his appeals that this is not another Viet Nam, it really is that type of war and not at all a model of WWII. How do we know when we have won this war? How do you prevent a determined man from killing other people?
