How will colleges look at this?

At the semester break, I will be transferring into homeschooling. I am in 11th grade. My concern is this: how/will it affect how colleges look at me that I will have half a year of public school credits and half a year of homeschool credits for my junior year?

I would prefer that people offer more insight than "just don't homeschool!"

Thanks.

Hey! So I've been homeschooled all the way through highschool.. I've looked at a ton (okay like 10!) colleges (some small some big and well known ones like Notre Dame). All of them accept homeschoolers and I'm sure they wouldn't look negatively at a mixed transcript - just consider it like changing schools!

"Admissions personnel who used to view homeschooled applicants with skepticism are now scrambling to recruit and enroll students who collectively score better on the SAT than their peers. The following resources will help you prepare to navigate the admissions process."

This is a quote from the HSLDA website, it has some super interesting and important information on

what you need to do to prepare for college as a homeschooler (eg. keeping a transcript and records, how to register yourself for the SAT and ACT etc.)

    Hope this helps!

I will not hurt just do well on your SAT, ACT, or entrance exam to your college.

I was homeschooled all but the first half of kindergarden, and I did not have any real trouble getting into college. The only real trouble I had was you have to take the SAT or ACT; because, colleges will not go by your high school GPA. (It's not like in the state of Maryland you have to be in an umbrella that checks to make sure the students are doing the work) I do know in some states homeschoolers have to take yearly standardized test to see if they have passed the grade, and I do not know if colleges will look at these scores for homeschooled kids or not.

P.S. I got into my local community college my senior year and took college class for high school and college credit, which would be my advice to you. I also was accepted into two private colleges, not ivy league though.

    Hello Krissy,

As long as you can prove that you complete the credits required to be admitted to that college, it won't really matter WHERE they came from.

My advice? Work on your transcript. Will you have enough credits/subjects completed for the college you're interested in? You should look into the whole college application process, now! This page will give you some great tips for preparing for college: http://www.homeschool-rewards.com/college-applicat...

As a homeschooler, you have the option of studying for the CLEP exam and using those credits for a dual purpose, high school AND college. It will save you time and money when you do that. Research all you options, you'll be glad you did. Turn off the TV and study for the ACT!

    All the Best to You!

As long as you keep good transcripts and do well on the ACT/SAT, getting into the college of your choice shouldn't be a problem. Most universities look favorably on homeschoolers these days, just be sure to provide all the documentation they require.

yea honestly it doesn't even matter that you're homeschooled. a college only looks at if you're capable of absorbing the college course material. so as long as you have knowledge and are eligible for enrollment they shouldnt even be concerned with the fact you were homeschooled

unless of course you want scholarships, in that case i wouldnt know. i would suggest talking to your school conselor :)

    oh yeah p.s

most colleges only want money so as long as you can afford it then they're going to take you, lol.

colleges in user-friendly terms seem at grades 9-12, it somewhat is why maximum persons describe intense college as a clean slate. That reported, the learn conduct you improve in midsection college will effect the varieties of grades you acquire in intense college. commence forming stable conduct early on; you will thank your self later.

You might have a better chance of getting into college. They are looking for home schoolers most of the time and do far better than the Public School Students. If you don't believe me, Look at the Statistics.

As long as you have a diploma, they won't even blink.

I homeschooled and got a diploma and when I went to take the tests for enrolling in the local community college and showed them my diploma, they didn't question a thing.
